A worked solution to a problem similar to the Hannah’s sweets question that went viral in the 2015 Edexcel Maths Examination. I have also included a couple alternative ways of doing it that I would refer to as ‘the easy way’ in a separate files (using the quadratic equation and solving by factorising). Do you think this question was too difficult for the students?Which way would you recommend to your students of solving this equation? For a factorising lesson based on the Hannahs sweets problem please seehttps://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/factorising-quadratics-hannahs-sweets-megapack-11067558For more on quadratics practice please check out our snakes and ladders game with over 500 questions. https://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/gcse-maths-higher-quadratic-snakes-and-ladders-mega-pack-5-games-increasing-difficulty-over-500-qs-11055952
An article perfect for students who are thinking about studying A-Level Computing with the intention of doing a degree in the subject, and students who will be making the jump from A-Level Computing to Degree Level Computing.
It includes a discussion on the benefits of developing a portfolio & how it may compare / relate to qualifications, recommendations on programming languages, a firm foundation in discrete/ decision mathematics & an introduction into some of the specialisms that draw students to the subject such as; robotics, artificial intelligence, databases, security, cryptography, software testing, UX design, software engineering and more.
The reading list is probably one of the most useful I have come across and would highly recommend your students acquire some of the texts if they have an interest in the subject or are considering entering the industry.
A handbook of over 60 Physics Experiments (over 175 Slides). All come with comprehensive instructions, analysis and questions. Based on the AQA Physics A syllabus, but also suitable for OCR & Edexcel Students. In addition there are 45 slides worth of tasks & activities, which aim to sharpen the students experimental skills covering (SI) units, conversions, maths for physics, data handing, representation and processing & content on the ISA.
Experiments include; conservation of energy, the spring constant, finding the young’s modulus, I-V Graphs, Ohms Law, Light Dependant resistors, Thermistor thermometer, resistivity of copper, EMF & Internal resistance, Resolving forces to find weight, moments, rolling down a ramp, terminal velocity, speed of waves in water, phase difference in pendulums, finding the refractive index, laser diffraction, circular motion, capacitance, magnetic flux density, the inverse square law, specific heat capacity & many more.
This Bumper revision megapack includes a wordsearch, a matching up activity, a crossword and a set of anagrams for the students to unscramble.
Makes a nice break from some of the more intensive revision most students will be undertaking in maths at this time of year. I use these as lesson starters and they work well with my students.
For a more indepth look at the topics please see my other resources
Enjoy & good luck to all the students sitting their exams!

It includes an introduction to alliteration with some tongue twisters to get them engaged. It follows up with a warm up activity and then moves on to the main content. The main task is about using alliteration to create poems, and follows up with a ‘dictionary’ of examples and terms they might want to use to get them started and give them some ideas.
I’ve included some screenshots to give you an idea of the quality before purchasing. A bargain at only £1.
I hope your students find it as fun as mine did.
Enjoy!
This presentation contains information on the fetch decode execute cycle. It starts off with an analogy and then proceeds to explain the cycle in layman’s terms so any student can understand it.
Follows a technical explanation, introducing the program counter, accumulator, MBR, CIR and MAR. I have also included some questions at the end to check that students have a firm understanding of the process.
Additionally I've added some fun activities to the presentation; a matching up activity and some anagrams containing all of the main keywords for them to unscramble. These make great lesson starters.
Cambridge and OCR students will also find it useful as there is much crossover.
A bargain at only £1!
