Planet Unknown - MYP Unit Bundle
TheTeachingAstrophysicistTheTeachingAstrophysicist

Planet Unknown - MYP Unit Bundle

(0)
This is an IB MYP Unit plan - Planet Unknown- which is ideal for students relating Science and astrophysics / astronomy. This unit engages students with planets and their structure, balance, gravity, space travel, the idea of scale and a great deal more in a broad conceptual understanding. It contains many, many resource links suggested for this unit and makes clear a set of points that students should know, understand and be able to do by the end of the unit. It also has some clear and interactive formative assessments and summative assessments. This unit is heavily detailed and ideal for something that is truly prepared to use in the classroom. It is an overview for a unit that should run for approximately 7 weeks (assuming 3 lessons a week). If instead you are looking for an MYP unit planner that is for mathematics and probability, why not try the Unlikely life MYP unit planner or perhaps one based on measurement and related concepts, then consider the mathematical vision unit plan or for geometry and artworks, try the Art of Mathematics unit plan or finally for fractions, decimals and percentages and lots of other mathematics, try the Problem with Money unit plan. For science and young students in MYP and which would be an ideal first unit, then consider: Nature of Science - introductory unit plan. For around the same age group - for MYP 2 / 3 an alternative IB MPY unit planner would be: the Food and Energy unit planner of the Growth unit planner. If rather for younger students you want to integrate both mathematics and STEM, then you might consider: MYP Artifical limb unit. For older MYP students, then I would suggest The NGSS related - Zero impact (sustainable housing) or for an Interdisciplinary unit - the Electricity / lightning MYP STEM IDU.

This is an IB MYP Unit plan - The power of magnets - which is ideal for students relating Science, mathematics and physics concepts. This unit engages students with the concept of magnets, static electricity, lightning, the sustainability of magnets, how are magnets made, how do they work and a great deal more in a broad conceptual understanding. It contains many, many resource links suggested for this unit and makes clear a set of points that students should know, understand and be able to do by the end of the unit. It also has some clear and interactive formative assessments and summative assessments. This unit is heavily detailed and ideal for something that is truly prepared to use in the classroom. It is an overview for a unit that should run for approximately 6 weeks (assuming 3 lessons a week). If instead you are looking for an MYP unit planner that is for science and is for biology, then the characteristics of life and body systems unit plan would be suitable. For astronomy / astrophysics, then the planet unknown unit plan would be suitable. If instead, you are seeking a mathematics unit plan and is based on measurement and related concepts, then consider the mathematical vision unit plan or for geometry and artworks, try the Art of Mathematics unit plan or finally for fractions, decimals and percentages and lots of other mathematics, try the Problem with Money unit plan. Veritasium / Minutephysics video companions

2 Resources
Simply, set and relax as these video companions will help make sure your students are paying attention throughout these videos, having a variety of questions throughout the length of the video. I have laboured long and hard to make these video companions as easy as possible to engage with and to be able to use for teachers of any kind, whether in school, higher education or home schooling, these can be great to keep students engaged and know they watched the material fully. For Veritasium: The video companions include: Astronomy related: Do you expand with the universe? Does planet 9 exist? Half the universe was missing… until now How one supernova measured the universe These are the asteroids to worry about Why gravity is NOT a force Why the speed of light can’t be measured How To Clean Up Space Junk Why Apollo Astronauts Trained in Nuclear Bomb Craters Non-Astronomy related: Can you swim in shade balls? How trees bend the laws of physics How Kodak exposed the Atomic bomb These pools support half the people on Earth Why Are 96,000,000 Black Balls on This Reservoir? States of matter How Special Relativity Makes Magnets Work The Most Radioactive Places on Earth The bizarre behaviour of rotating bodies explained Flamethrower vs Aerogel Ice spikes explained Make plasma with grapes in the microwave Making liquid Nitrogen from scratch Misconceptions about heat I Waterproofed Myself With Aerogel! World’s Lightest Solid! For Minutephysics - the videos include: The Higgs Boson, Part I What if the Earth were Hollow? Why is it Dark at Night? Common Physics Misconceptions Is it Better to Walk or Run in the Rain? How Big is the Universe? MAGNETS: How do they work? What is Sea Level? Why is the Solar System Flat? How Modern Light Bulbs Work How to See Without Glasses Antimatter Explained This is Not a Rainbow How to Subtract By Adding How Long To Fall Through The Earth? Hitting the Sun is HARD Why It’s Impossible to Tune a Piano Will Batteries Power The World? | The Limits Of Lithium-ion The Unreasonable Efficiency of Black Holes The Brown Dwarf Debate Why Do Compressed Air Cans Get Cold? Our Ignorance About Gravity Einstein’s Biggest Blunder, Explained The Physics of Windmill Design Usage: The layout of these video companions are that there are both teacher and student versions of all of these documents. The teacher versions contain the solutions and the administrative information. The student versions contain only the questions and spaces for students to fill in the work. They are easy to use and all in PDF form, including one large ‘master file’ so you can see all the content in one broad sweep and see what video companion will work for you and your students easily. Disclaimer: This work is intended to be a course companion and is all original work based on supporting and aligning with the two hugely successful youtube series – Veritasium and Minutephyiscs. The hosts of these series are Derek Muller and Henry Reich. The respective rights and content are their own and below to Veritasium and Minutephysics and their owners. Further when Vertiasium / Minutephysics brings in additional youtubers and their brands such as Smartereveryday, SufficentlyAdvanced and others, their respective works and content is their own. This work is intended as an independent supplement which has been wholly and independently developed by The Teaching Astrophysicist for sale on TeacherspayTeachers and TES.
