This lesson looks at the success criteria for the spoken language component of the new English Language GCSE (AQA). Students then apply the speeches to clips from the Queen, Michelle Obama and James Corden. It then introduces the task students are to work towards in order to fulfill this aspect of the GCSE.

An accessible yet differentiated lesson which explores Obama’s use of rhetoric in his anti-war speech. Designed for AQA Language paper 2 question 3 (and leads into a question 5), but could be used with any year group and any spec as the skills are transferable. A group work activity with minimal printing and copying.

Writing grids where students write in response to a photo stimulus, in line with the expectations of AQA Language paper 1. There are 12 lessons here which follow a step-by-step guide detailing how to approach this question. Could be used with any year group but especially helpful for those preparing for the examination. Predictions for all 4 questions on the forthcoming TV Game show 2017 paper, based on pre-release. As a former examiner, I have accompanied this with model answers which use bullet points, spider diagrams and tables but still access the highest mark. The only task I have not answered is the practical task, though I have still predicted this.
