The River Nile, Egypt - A Source Of Conflict Or Co-Operation

(0)
Water is very precious but can be taken advantage of in more economically developed countries such as England or America where there is an abundant supply. It would be difficult for us to appreciate how different it is in other countries. Boutros Boutros Ghali, former foreign minister of Egypt and United Nations Secretary-General said, when talking about north east Africa, “The next war in our region will be over the waters of the Nile, not politics” Rivers can be a source of convicting and co-operating demands from different countries. These worksheets discuss the factors responsible for flooding the Nile, why the demand for water is growing in the Nile basin, the possible consequences for Egypt if water shortages arise and possible solutions. The advantages and disadvantages of living upstream or downstream of a possible dam are discussed, as well as whether developing the land at risk of flooding should be allowed and concludes with who owns the water in the worlds major world rivers.

Hinduism - A Mysterious Beast, Brahman And Other Hindu Gods

(0)
The best way to illustrate the diversity of Hinduism is through the story of ‘A Mysterious Beast,’ where an elephant comes to the Land of the Blind and the king sends his courtiers to find out what it is. Each man describes a different part of the elephant, all are correct in what they describe, but only in part in comparison to the whole Students learn, as with the elephant, Hinduism is made up of many parts. There are thousands of gods and goddesses whom Hindus may worship, all with their own special individual characteristics, which allow followers to choose their own deities. Many believe all these gods and goddesses are different aspects of the unchanging ultimate supreme Brahman. These worksheets include a game which explains how each part of the elephant is described by the blind men and asks the students to explain how this is linked to the Hindu religion. Then, individually, or in groups, the students will create a poster which can come together to show as many of the Hindu god and goddesses as possible – possibly about 30 depending in the size of your class (!). A brief description and image of the gods Ganesh, Shiva, Durga, Lakshmi and Vishnu are included. What Is The Future Of Everest Base Camp?

(0)
Mount Everest has two base camps; one on its south side in Nepal and one on the north in Tibet. Located on the south side at 5,360 meters is Nepal’s South Base Camp, situated within Sagarmatha National Park and is also a World Heritage Site. This camp is very basic but used by climbers during their ascent and descent of Everest. This trek is one of the most popular routes in the Himalayas and is hiked by thousands of people every year. The students task is to imagine a proposal has been made to build a more permanent settlement at the Everest Base Camp. They have two tasks to complete: - Task One: A written piece of work detailing the views of the different groups using the area, including your own point of view - Task Two: Drawing a detailed plan of your idea for a village which would suit the groups who use the Everest Base Camp and the facilities they would need. Your choice of design and facilities will need to be explained.
