This unit is intended to give an overview of pollution and sustainability issues. The issues arising are engaging and relevant to students and hopefully will provide a good “hook”! Skills are predominantly graphical and interpretative. Students are introduced to current environmental issues; climate change, global warming, plastic pollution, renewable energy etc. and so hopefully this will enable students to link Geography to their own lives. A fully resourced unit. This unit begins with mapping areas within Northern Europe, and interleaves basic mapping skills; grid referencing, compass directions, scale and distance. The fist section focuses on the formation of glaciated landscapes, before looking at conflict in the Lake District. This section is followed by a mid-unit test. The second half of the unit looks at causes and consequences of flooding in Scandinavia, followed by a case study looking at cruise ship tourism. There is an end of unit assessment.
