The resource consists of a power point and two handouts. This was part of a topic we did as a department entitled ‘It’s a man’s world.’ The powerpoint looks at the Brontes in terms of the struggles they had as women, rather than looking at any specific writings of theirs. The ppt starts with the famous clip of Kate Bush as Cathy. My students’ reactions to this (a class of year 9 girls) were very interesting. Links are drawn between Kate Bush and her heroine. The two handouts are : ‘Kate Bush chose Wuthering Heights’ - they read and answer the questions on the handout and ‘The Brontes as feminists’ - they answer the questions on the ppt. I hope it will be useful.

This is a worksheet, to get them thinking about what the ‘new normal’ will be like. I prepared this for EAL, but it might be useful elsewhere.

Some activities around the language of probability.

A series of worksheets: Words beginning with each letter of the alphabet. The clue is given and the students work out what the word is. I'll upload these as I complete them. To extend this, the students can choose any noun and mind map it with &'where do you see it? What is it made of? Draw it. Design a symbol for it etc...\nMore to come!

Excellent diagram of a house! A match up exercise - match the names of the rooms to the pictures and a true and false activity. The house template is from eslprintables.

This is a ppt of 57 slides, with activities that students can complete themselves. My students have their English work, but these activities are extra. They are fun, although some lend themselves to writing tasks and where possible, a writing task has been suggested. I’m sending this to my students, in years 8 and 9. I have taken my Fifty Fun Activities ppt on here, which I uploaded for use in PHSC , adapted it and added to it quite significantly. I hope it will be useful. I would love some positive feedback; wouldn’t we all in these miserable times? Some of these activities are sourced from the net.

Urban legend, adapted from the internet. The story is on the first slide, then there are various activities: visuals for Splat, or Q &A session; true or false/put the story in sequential order/guidelines for a hot seat and ideas on how to teach the story. My aim is to get the students to produce a recount.

This is a worksheet on everyday terms which can be used in probability. I prepared this when one of my students said he didn't know what 'certain' meant. I have also uploaded a ppt with the same language which can be presented as a game of Splat! or a card sort activity.

A vignette about a silly woman, with questions, a T&F and 2 match-ups. It might make for a bit of light relief with adult students.

This is a play with 9 parts (easily adaptable). I am doing a topic on fairy tales, leading on to Shrek. I acted this out with my EAL students.

This is a ppt of 40 slides, exploring the reasons why there are so many words in English. It takes a brief look at the historical reasons, but concentrates on language awareness exercises. There are gap fill, true or false and rearrange the letters exercises, as well as picture description and comprehension questions. Finally, the students are invited to create some new words. This is intended for EAL, but most slides are suitable for native speakers.

There are six shopping lists. What can students deduce about the people's personalities? On page 2, there are some prompts and a gap fill activity as differentiation.

I am making a series of picture-based discussions on various topics of general interest. I use these during tutor period to get the group thinking, debating and writing.

This is a series of pictures and comments about a boy's day to reinforce the present simple - what he normally/usually/sometimes does etc.. There is reading, sequencing, match up (sentences and pictures), true or false and a gap fill activity. Thanks to my colleague Sophia in Ukraine for the template. I&'ve done this for my EAL class, but it may suit younger pupils.

This is to get the students using higher level language and thinking skills. They have to use conditionals with compound tenses (would have done/might have done) etc to be able to debate/discuss different possible outcomes.

A play based on Aesop's fable. There are six narrators, besides the main parts, which can easily be adapted to fewer or more. I&'ve tried to make it fun and upbeat. This version is based on a Youtube clip and I&';ve included the link. There is no talking in the video, so it's great for teaching EAL kids.

I ask my students to comment on each picture and make inferences. Then they have to prepare a 5 minute talk on whether they are for or against the death penalty and why. It's still a useful debate and can be linked to &'Of Mice and Men&'; and many other works they study.

A few ideas for introducing the past simple - on the second sheet. On the first sheet is a little worksheet with exercises based on a street scene.

Two short anecdotes with language activities: 1) Socrates and the triple filter test. 2) The rest of your life. These could be used in PHSCE or English.
