HUGE REDUCTION on all Scratch v2 resources.
This is designed to support the Switched On Computing Year 4 unit 4.2, and has been specifically written with year 4 pupils in mind.
My goal is to get students to create a fun project, whilst at the same time learn how the instructions work and fit together. To this end, I use the following approach:
- break the project down into manageable chunks
- present students with “pseudo-code” for each chunk
- provide students with the Scratch commands to implement the pseudo-code, but jumbled up
In this way, students learn about pseudo-code (an important part of coding), and have to understand the Scratch instructions in order to sequence them correctly to match the pseudo-code.
The lessons comprise:
1. a PowerPoint with introductory slides and the project instructions
2. a Word document with the PowerPoint instruction slides printed 2 to a page as a handout
3. accompanying Scratch project files for teachers that match the project
Other lessons in this series:
A FREE introduction to Scratch.
Project I: A maze type project.
Project II: Create a question and answer type quiz.
Project III: A game where students move a sight with the mouse to shoot ghosts.
Project IV: Students create a Music Player with layers of menus for different categories.
Project V: Simulate a toy with touch pads.
Project VI: Drawing shapes and repeating patterns.
Project VII: Base Attack.
[Project VIII: Flappy Octopus.</>

Having seen so, so many worksheets on grammar, I finally decided to create this pack - based on cherry picking the best ideas from countless text books and worksheets and adapting.
It covers a range of the grammar used up to Year 6 and provides succinct definitions and plenty of varied practice for each topic.
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions, and a BIG BIG thanks for looking (as a full time practicing teacher, I KNOW how time consuming this process can be).
ALL my postings are FULLY “classroom-tested” - before I publish, my lessons are tested by both myself and colleagues, rigorously evaluated and discussed, and continually updated to maximize their effectiveness.

In this project, based on Flappy Birds, the player has to navigate an octopus through waves of hungry sharks.
There are many sites offering Scratch Projects. However, many tend to be like recipes - students almost mechanically enter code and create “delicious cakes”, without learning a lot about Scratch.

Fractions - love them or hate them, they're part of life!!
This resource uses the Tangram shapes to explore fractions and equivalence in a fun (yes!) and visual way. It can be used an an exploratory introduction to your fractions module.
Included is a Word document with 5 pages of investigations, an answer grid, a PowerPoint with various resources for you to adapt, and a downloaded youtube video ("A Sage's Journey The Story of Tangrams").
I introduce students to programming through Scratch, and then extend this into the world of text based coding through Python and Python Turtle.
The lessons use Trinket as a simple interface for entering and running Python code - no downloads required.
The students are introduced to Python coding in the context of creating amazing patterns. In so doing, they become familiar with the commands and the syntax, and learn to debug errors they will inevitably have made. There is enough material for approx. 4 one-hour sessions, and of course, once students get started, they can easily develop their own ideas.
I’ve delivered these lessons to Year 5/6 students, and they have absolutely loved it.
The lessons are delivered through a fully animated PowerPoint with explanatory slides and embedded videos (can be extracted if required). In addition, there is a workbook of activities.

In this project, waves of cloned alien spacecraft appear at any edge of the screen and attack the base. The player must defend their base as long as possible and destroy the aliens. Enhancements allow, for example, attack craft to appear when energy levels reach a threshold.

Whilst I was creating my Memory resources, I thought that memorising a set of Christmas images would make a great game to play with the class as Christmas approaches.
The children are shown a slide with a number of Christmas images which they need to try and remember. Then, the same slide is shown but with one or more images missing. They have to write down what the missing image or images are on their whiteboards - ideal as a CLASS ACTIVITY. This is then repeated several times with different images removed.

Two or more words having the same pronunciation but different meanings, origins, or spelling, for example new and knew. (Dictionary definition)
These 8 pages of worksheets provide practice at the common homophones:
- were, wear, where, we’re
- to, two, too
- there, their, they’re
Plus 2 pages of misc. exercises covering a mixture of other homophones.
These exercises challenge students to find better alternatives for the often over-used and unimaginative words: "very", "nice" and "said".
Having been a substitute teacher in over 100 different classes in countless schools, I have learned a thing or two over the years - really! The absolute most important is - establish your expectations right at the start. The day is then productive and enjoyable for both you and the children.
I use this PowerPoint EVERY time I teach a class for the FIRST time, or as a reminder if I am returning to a class after a period. It guides me and the class through the critical first 30 minutes of the day.
Slides are accompanied with detailed Notes where appropriate to explain how the slide is best used.

This collection of questions and situations, presented in a PowerPoint presentation of over 100 slides, really provokes students into deep thinking!
There are no answers as such. This is not a yes/no type of exercise. All the slides present situations and questions that provoke the students to find their own answer, knowing that there remains uncertainty!
Once familiar with the slides, you will be able to come back with your own follow up questions, further provoking students to rethink or reconsider their answers.
Students feel frustrated, but more so, extremely elated!

This PowerPoint illustrates the fairly well known "Stroop Effect".
Slides show color-words written in different colors and the task is to first read the word, and then to say the color.
