For several years I worked with Easylearn publishers, developing resources for children struggling with English and Maths. I am one of the creators of the Froggy Match-it phonics app, which helps beginner readers to learn to read and spell effectively.

This book contains 30 photocopiable games for 2 to 4 players,each designed to practise the reading of high-fequency words.The inbuilt flexibility allows teachers to use any words of their choice, although 100 photocopiable, high-frequency word cards are included. The games are easy to set up and play and six Record of Achievement sheets are included. These photocopiable games are ideal as fun tasks to take home. This edition has the 100-word list and the Records of Achievement based on the 100 high-frequency words suggested in Letters and Sounds. A different Irish Edition is also available which has the 100-word list and the Records of Achievement based on the National Educational Psychological Service’s ‘First Hundred Words Checklist’. These sheets give an interesting focus for young, beginner writers. They can be used for all types of writing including narratives, descriptions, reports etc. There is a good mix of topics: the themes were suggested by children and their teachers. Each sheet comes in three formats: no lines, wide lines and narrower lines. The Yellow Book has 33 topics, including The Giant and Basketball. A Blue Picture Writing Sheets Book is also available: the same format, just different topics. Previously sold through Easylearn.

This book gives an excellent introduction to Onset and Rime work. It includes cut and stick activities and incorporates nursery rhymes which appeal to younger children. It has a useful introduction section which bridges the gap between oral/aural and written rhyming work. This book is very helpful for those children who are not succeeding with a purely synthetic phonics approach. Includes sheets to make word-building cards or booklets.
