Across the Curriculum with Picnics: Picnics can be fun any time of the year. They provide an excellent starting point for activities dealing with nature, art and crafts, language arts and mathematics. Your students will enjoy the adventure of a Winter picnic or look forward to a Summer picnic. It has a huge appeal for young readers and lends itself to providing opportunities for exploring history, culture, and life values. Attention Australian Teachers. This is a novel study that is closely linked to the Australian curriculum with Scope and Sequence stated for each of the 14 chapters. For each chapter there are activity suggestions and questions for either individual answers, or small group or class discussions.

This ELA unit features one of Kevin Henke's delightful mouse characters named Chrysanthemum. The objectives are clearly defined. Students will discuss bullying and teasing and how to be kind to others. There are activities for students to explore their names. Handouts are provided.

A unique novel study unit featuring The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary. There are 13 chapters and a culminating activities page. Each chapter (suggest one chapter per day) has objectives clearly stated, an input session, and activities dealing with each of the objectives.

This is a comprehensive study of Phoebe Gilman, beloved author and illustrator of childrens' books. The Objectives and Standards are clearly stated at the beginning of the unit. The activities that are described for each book cover the whole curriculum. Each story has an explanation of the author's inspiration for it, and things to look for as you share the book. Phoebe Gilman is famous for her hidden surprises in each of her creations. Young children often find fractions very difficult so why not make use of a favourite food -PIZZA- to stimulate interest and understanding of patterns, fractions and creativity.

This is a short unit suitable for pre K and Kindergarten students. It features one of the delightful mouse characters from author Kevin Henkes. In this unit students are encouraged to make a filmstrip, discuss the characteristics of the story character and think about their siblings.
