An assembly on world kindness day. looking at what is being kind and why be kind. it is based on uk kindness day, but can be easily altered for other countries.
third part of science lesson looking at drugs. this lesson looks at drugs in sports. what are they, how they differ from illegal drugs. what constitutes a banned substance with examples. this has two activities, one looks at what impact the different types of banned substances could have on an athlete. activity two the class get given examples of failed drugs tests, what punishment would the class give. it then moves onto how health living can enhance an athletes potential (including education) with some real life examples.

follow up science lesson understanding drugs.
it starts with looking at how we know the medicines we take are what they say they are. Brief look at QA labs in pharma companies, MHRA and FDA.
then onto chromatography and how it separates out medicines, with a look at HPLC.
finally our own way of looking at chromatography with the famous blotting paper and felt pen experiment.
A simple power point presentation on drugs. difference between medication and drugs. a loo at caffeine then prescription medication. finishing off with nicotine.

Long multiplication can sometimes be hard for some pupils to grasp, they can misplace a zero, not carry a number etc. I know its tricky (thankfully we have calculators). Here is a step method of looking at it. it has grayed out areas and default zeros added. the do times by units then add up, then tens and add up and so on until you add all the sums up at the end. contained is an example and a blank sheet for pupils to try with.
An assembly on the 30th anniversary of Britain's great storm. A look at Michael Fish famous weather forecast, then a look at the destruction that occurred. A quick look at the advances in weather analysis. Then onto community spirit and everyone helping each other, especially with recent events in the Caribbean and southern America.

A long assembly (or 2/3 short ones). starts by looking at what space is, moves onto the planets in our solar system. then asteroids and comets. looking at alien life and what it could look like. Then onto the international space station and how it was built. Next a little look at Tim Peake, finishes with the you tube video of when the ISS does Bowie
A play for the class to perform about a group of animals trying to save the rain-forest. Can T toucan and H monkey along with their friends cuddles the anaconda, the baby jaguars, the sloth, Mr and Mrs bat and more, stop the business woman, her henchman and chainsaw team from ripping down the amazon. As the group lead the business woman and her team to the center of the amazon on a goose chase for a hidden treasure, that turns into a wrestling match, including the reigning champ the jaguar

when it was put on at school as a summer production it went down well.
A simple assembly looking at national poetry day and two blank sheets for the pupils to write on. It looks at the teachers favorite poem (currently dad fell in the pond by Alfred Noyse). Then the nation fav, the owl and the pussycat. then topic of freedom, two examples of different poems on the theme. An assembly looking at the top twenty toys of all time as voted by the toy industry. what makes the list. Can the pupils guess what is in the top five of Subbuteo, Scalextric, action man, monopoly and lego. can they see why these toys are so highly rated. it ends with a clip from lego masters on channel four.
A poem and assembly looking at the seasons. plus as an added extra some helpers if you wish to make a display out of what the children have said the seasons mean to them.
