I create a range of resources aimed at primary aged children; most frequently upper KS2. My passion is teaching mathematics, my specialist subject area. I have two aims: To create fun resources which inspire children To create mathematicians, not robots! I believe great teaching, specifically with mathematics, should aim to teach children the underlining methods which children can apply to take initiative of their own learning! A fun and engaging board game themed around my math villain, Dr Doom! The game has math questions from a range of topics such as number, place value, measurement, geometry and time. It is an amazing way to revise, practice, assess and motivate learners! It also contains word problem challenge cards. The children can take multiple routes to Dr Doom's laboratory meaning they can play it many times over! This is a more eco-friendly black and white version however a coloured version is available at the same price. Please rate and feedback. Other primary resources are available in my shop which is linked below. Happy learning! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1

'Outstanding' lesson on classifying angles into acute, right and obtuse (cross curricular link)

'Outstanding' lesson on classifying angles into acute, right and obtuse (cross curricular link)

This is a lesson I used for a recent observation in Year 3 (it's also relevant for Year 4) in which I was graded 'outstanding'. It teaches children to classify angles into acute, right and obtuse with a cross-curricular link to Science (angles of light). A lesson plan complete with all the activities, worksheets, resources and clear visual presentation is included. The lesson has a higher ability starter where they must work out missing number problems in context (missing angles within right angles.) Because they are multi-step problems they can be used evidence of greater depth learners. Thanks for looking. Build Dr Doom's island! A fun Year 3 & 4 Maths game using budgeting, perimeter and drawing shapes

Can you engineer Dr Doom's new luxury research island? This is a great maths activity for lower KS2, most specifically Years 3 and 4. Children will receive a blank A3 island template. They are provided with a budget and information cards explaining how to build various buildings and luxury items. Be careful though because you have to stay within budget! This activity is a great way for children to learn and revise maths skills. Throughout the activity they must perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, draw different 2D shapes & polygons and work out the perimeter of shapes. It is complete with a PowerPoint which sets the scenario and clearly explains the activity. It also includes an example of a completed island. I designed and used this source for a parent-children maths cafe and it went down a treat! The children and parents had a great time and gave me tremendous feedback! I hope you enjoy it! Please leave me with any feedback and check out my shop following the link below. A more eco-friendly grey scale version of this resource is available. https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1

Column addition for Year 3 featuring Dr Doom!

This is an introduction to Column addition aimed at Year 3 (UK) or Second grade (US). It starts of with basic examples and moves to explain bridging through ten, hundred and both ten and hundred in a visual, child friendly and easy to understand way. The children will have great fun defeating my mathematics villain, Dr Doom! It has four worksheets which correspond to a code that the children use to defeat each stage of Dr Doom's plan. The PowerPoint has logical break off points meaning it's perfect to complete over multiple sessions. I have tried to provide children with a clear understanding of the methods underpinning column addition which relates directly to the new style mastery curriculum. I hope the children have as much fun with it as my students did! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1 Happy learning :)

Differences in time on a 24 hour clock PowerPoint, activity and worksheets for Year 3 and Lower KS2

This resource contains a PowerPoint which fully explains how to work out differences in time for 24 hour clocks. It uses a scaffolded approach starting from comparing times within the same hour to comparing times differences between hours. It contains a relevant basic skills starter session (missing number problems and using the inverse operation to solve these), two worksheets and a differentiated group activity linked to my mathematical villain, Dr Doom! This worked really well with my class and produced some super work. The children found the final activity particularly fun and the feedback they gave me was extremely positive! It has been differentiated meaning it is suitable for all learners. Please rate my resources. I welcome all feedback! Please check out my shop using the link below. This resource pack contains an extensive 60 slide PowerPoint on time. It starts with the basic measurements of time that the children are required to know. It moves onto provide a scaffolded approach to telling the time on 12 and 24 hour clocks. First children look at minutes, then hours before finally putting them together to tell the time. It has been split up into four distinct sections each complete with a worksheet which means it is ideal for a weeks worth of work (I based 6 lessons around these resources). A differentiated homework task has also been included. Please rate my resource and provide feedback. Check out my shop! Thanks! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1

Geometry 1 Y3 - Unit of work - Polygons, classifying and producing 2-D and 3-D shapes & symmetry

(0)
This is a unit of work which contains a scaffolded PowerPoint, five worksheets and one activity to cover five sessions. I have produced a recommended lesson plan which clearly sequences each session . In addition to these resources you will also need mirrors, coloured pencils and materials to make 3-D models such as Polydron. The LO's are below which gives you an idea of the unit's sequence. Session 1 - I will be able to understand polygons are 2-D shapes with straight lines forming a circuit and identify these. Sessions 2 - I can follow instructions to draw different polygons and 2-D shapes. Session 3 - I will be able to identify symmetry within shapes. Session 4 - I can make my own 3-D shapes. Session 5 - I can classify 2-D and 3-D shapes based on their properties. Thank you for looking. Any feedback left would be greatly appreciated.
