This is a 12 slide PowerPoint that covers BTec National Engineering (A-Level equivalent) on the topic of Efficiency and Mechanical Advantage as applied to lifting machines in engineering. This is the seventh PowerPoint in this section which covers Mechanical Advantage and Velocity Ratio in ideal systems and then applies this to non-perfect scenarios so that efficiency can be calculated. The lifting machine of a block being pushed up a slope is used throughout this PowerPoint to cover this topic in an easy to understand manner. This lesson covers the calculations for calculating the thermal efficiency for these systems, including a worked example for a modern combustion engine. This PowerPoint lesson on Electromagnetism covers the formation of a magnetic field around a current carrying wire using the right hand grip rule, solenoid construction and the methodology of working out which was to orientate a magnetic field through a solenoid. This PowerPoint lesson on Electric Motors covers the application of the motor effect (See previous lesson) in the creation of DC electric motors. This lesson recaps the formula F=BIL and then applies this to DC motor construction. The main design components are a loudspeaker are also covered.
