Platformer using minimal code (Scratch)

(7)
This little platform game uses the least code, I could possibly get away with. Nice for newbies to code a 'Mario' style game. Also my students tell me its actually quite a challenging little game. Easy coding doesn't necessarily mean an easy game...
Plagiarism Assembly

Plagiarism Assembly

(7)
This assembly was given to Key stage 4 & 5 to illustrate the importance of acknowledging sources and how important it becomes when doing UCAS applications and in university.
Parental Help Leaflet (Online Safety)

Parental Help Leaflet (Online Safety)

(5)
This project is designed to help students to think about the safe use of Social Networking sites in the guise of designing a leaflet for parents. Very useful, especially for year 9's who believe that they already know it all. Once made, sometimes the students create quality projects that are worth sharing with the parents. This project does NOT require any direct access to Social Networking sites, so is useful for schools who block Facebook etc.
Revision Techniques (Jedi Mind Tricks)

Revision Techniques (Jedi Mind Tricks)

(59)
This little lesson was designed to show students different ways that they could revise for exams. As well as the main lesson it also includes a Diamond 9 which could be used as an extension or follow up. There is also an assembly version, which the link takes you to. I've also included a link to a blank lesson plan, because with the template each plan took about 15 minutes to do and could be useful for teacher trainees.
Elasticities Problem Generator

Elasticities Problem Generator

(6)
This little Spreadsheet instantly generates problems and answers, so that students can work hard whilst you enjoy a few moments respite. The Spreadsheet formulae have been kept as simple as humanly possible. So once in a while it might try to divide by 0 or throw up ridiculous figures that are most unlikely to occur in real life. If it happens, just press F9 and you will get a new puzzle. Please let me know if there's any gremlins, you like it or if it could be extended in anyway.
Printable GCSE Glossary

Printable GCSE Glossary

(4)
This is a printable ICT GCSE Glossary to help students with the Edexcel GCSE in ICT. Annoyingly there is not one in the back of the students book, so I’ve tried to create this one for students folders. I’ve also included an Excel version, which can be used for resource development and on-screen viewing. Please let me know if there are any words missing.
Secret Body Language Exercise

Secret Body Language Exercise

(23)
In this exercise two people have to say the same script, but try through body-language to convey different messages. Hilarious and really shows how much people communicate through non-verbal communication.
Demand and Supply Shifts Matching cards

Demand and Supply Shifts Matching cards

(9)
Simple set of matching cards to help students understand demand and supply graph shifts. (Simply cut them up and get the students to work out how they go together.) Hope they save somebody ten minutes work.
Mindmap of all the English Tenses

Mindmap of all the English Tenses

(29)
I really just put this together to show off just how capable the Mind Mapping Software could be, but I am sure it must be useful for showing tenses. It was originally part of a series of lessons on learning 2 learn and how Mindmaps could be used to help with revision. The resource uses shortened English, because when I made the original materials I was teaching speaking rather than formal written documents. (For the British Council in Kuala Lumpur)
Essay & Story Planning Tools

Essay & Story Planning Tools

(16)
Students often have difficulties doing plans for assignments. This lesson shows students 4 types of planning. Venn Diagrams, Lists, MindMaps and Free Text. Surprised that my year 12's really needed this and figured that it needs to be taught from KS2 onwards. (The PDF is provided for Mac users and is the same as the Publisher file)
Guide to animating characters in PowerPoint

Guide to animating characters in PowerPoint

(7)
This shows how easy it is to animate images in PowerPoint taking away much of the difficulty that animators would have had in the past. (The Movie is supposed to be silent, because not all my PCs have headphones.) Also in Office 2010 you can record a narration and save it out as a video. This could then be uploaded to a video site or shared with children at a local primary school. (For older versions of office you could use Camstudio to record the video.)
Life Cycle Handout

Life Cycle Handout

(2)
This little handout is a bit more engaging than the usual examples given in the textbooks. Please feel free to change for your own examples.
Lego Olympics
james_abelajames_abela

Lego Olympics

(2)
We used the Lego Mindstorms Robots for this, but you could use any Turtle or robot to compete in an Olympics. Simply put, we got students from neighbouring Primary Schools to come in and compete for the honour of winning the Robo Olympics. It was a lot of fun and I hope the resource inspires you to do something...
Using Open Source Software

Using Open Source Software

(2)
This Word table introduces students to Open Source software and asks why schools are still prepared to pay for commercial software? It is useful for familiarising students and teachers to software types, what is available for free and what benefits a school gets from commercial software.
Web Design on the topic of Web Safety (Kompozer)

Web Design on the topic of Web Safety (Kompozer)

(2)
This is a complete Web Design module that can be used in Keystage 3 or as a refresher in Keystage 4. It uses the free software, Kompozer which is a WYSIWYG designer but enables you to see the code at a glance. In the module students design a Web Safety site, helping them to understand how to use the web safely. There are links to the software, the sample site and the planning lesson. (Videos are silent) Please be warned that students have made Internet safety disclosures during these lessons. Be prepared.
How to Quickly Make Comics

How to Quickly Make Comics

(2)
This little presentation introduces Cartoon Story Maker. A great little application made by the Victorian State Government. The entire presentation was made using it and the first link shows you the end result it saves. The other link is to download the software for yourself. (Requires Adobe Flash to use)
Helping the Teachers with ICT
james_abelajames_abela

Helping the Teachers with ICT

(2)
This project encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning and improve the use of ICT in school. This could be a one-off project in an ICT lesson, a project extension for gifted and talented or something that school council investigates. It also could also be connected to a Digital Leaders project.
Advertising the Game
james_abelajames_abela

Advertising the Game

(3)
This resource was used in ICT to encourage students to make their own advert, but could easily be adapted for reluctant writers or made into an assembly to show how advertising works. i.e. Selling products people do not want to buy. This resource requires a newer version of PowerPoint or the player.
