CC5a Ionic Bonds

Edexcel CC5a Ionic Bonds. This presentation usually takes about 3 or 4 lessons depending upon how quickly the students grasp the concept. It is worth spending time ensuring full comprehension as this is one of the fundamentals in chemistry. It starts by looking at how ions form, then moves onto drawing ions and ionic bonding diagrams ( dot and cross diagrams) Finally it ends by looking at charges on ions and how they link to the position in the Periodic Table. 3 differentiated worksheets are also included with this bundle.
Mentoring

Mentoring

(0)
This is a presentation I have used several times to good reviews for new ITE mentors. It introduces them to the idea of mentoring and what it entails. The fairy tale activity works really well with new ITE trainees and enables the mentor to really get an idea of how the trainee is feeling without it being personal. I have included 3 examples to look at but its much better if you get your own trainees to do one and use that as an example instead.

Lets revise Ions and ionic bonding

(0)
A stand alone resource that I have used for revision of ionic bonding. It guides students how to write the name of ionic compounds, how to draw ionic bonding diagrams and how to write the formulae of ionic compounds. There are 3 opportunities in the presentation for students to practice what has been taught so that any misconceptions can be addressed immediately.

CP10c Flemings left hand rule and motors

(0)
Edexcel CP10c Flemings left hand rule and the motor effect. This powerpoint start by recapping the basics of magnetism and then looks at how Flemings left hand rule determine the direction in which the wire moves. This is followed by calculating the size of the force using the equation F=Bx I x l and includes worked examples. It then moves onto looking at how motors work and the different parts in a motor and finally finishes with the opportunity to build a simple DC motor. There is plenty of opportunity for Afl within this lesson. The workmat also included allows students to work independent of their books as it has key points, learning outcomes and graded questions on it.
CC8g Solubility

CC8g Solubility

(0)
Edexcel CC8g Solubility. This powerpoint starts with a demo of lead nitrate and potassium iodide reacting together to give a bright yellow precipitate. I try and and make this a bit of a magic show! This then leads on to looking at the solubility rules and deciding which salts are soluble or not. After some practice of finding the precipitate, the students are then shown how to make an insoluble salt. The lesson finishes with an exit ticket which could be handed in so that the teacher can find out what students are still unsure of.
