Differentiated assessment of Dorset: coastal town

This is an assessment piece for KS3 that I use as a differentiated set of handouts when setting up the task with groups I usually see twice a week as a two week project. Giving the students access to maps and computers is crucial during this assessment.

A short introduction to get secondary pupils to think about where their food comes from and how to use food more sustainably. This lesson can be used with the Food Inc. CDRom if you have it. If you DON'T have it, you might be able to get a free copy from info@dogwoof.com Add your own animations to text etc if you wish.

To go with this tutorial I have added one of the resources: a comparison summary or short essay task with key ideas about the European Heatwave 2003 and Myanmar cyclone Nargis 2008. Can be altered accordingly for different weather case studies.

Just one of the powerpoints used with GCSE/A Level double periods in the past. I have personally used the resource that I have attached as a quick test/plenary at the end of the lesson to see who has been taking the most effective notes OR retaining key facts.

A short workbook in which AS students can compile some basic research about hurricanes (including Katrina). Very good for showing the importance of organisation of notes and the use of decent questioning and research skills.

These outlines are designed to be used with the tutorial/powerpoint resource I uploaded called 'sustainable food lesson'. The lunchtime outline is used for the kids to draw what they will/did eat at lunch and start discussing where their food came from. The food images are used for them to write a pledge about how they/their parents can be more sustainable with food.

General knowledge Geography

(1)
Using the internet, this is a fun activity for homework or a spare lesson to test general knowledge Geography that the students may face questions about outside of school.

The Day After Tomorrow question sheet

(2)
To be used when showing The Day After Tomorrow in class. I usually get mine to use their answers to build a short essay under the title: 'If the planet is warming, what are the climatic possibilities for the future of the Northern hemisphere?'
