Extended writing - Writing to describe
Lesson plan and resources based on an extract from Maggie Gee's 'The Ice People'. Designed to help middle set students extend their writing. Lesson is differentiated and encourages peer assessment.
Year 8 introduction to poetry week 3 lessons
Lessons encourage students to analyse a Shakespearean sonnet and apply a simple writing frame of analysis. Encourages them to think cratively about language and use of imagery.
year 9 non-fiction scheme week 2 lessons
Writing to persuade. Guides students through learning the necessary skills for GCSE as well as encouraging them to write a sales pitch. Could be assessed as an individual speaking and listening.

Year 9 introduction to the novel for GCSE
This is a proposed programme of study designed for the last half term in the year to prepare students for GCSE study of the novel. It includes an independent study for homework, a writing assessment, reading assessment, speaking and listening task and a bridging project for over the summer holiday.
Revision of basic grammar skills
Powerpoint on parts of speech, sentence types and punctuation. Can be downloaded for students to use themselves to remind them of the basics as part of their independent learning.
Year 9 Nonfiction scheme week one lessons
Weekly lessons including a market place activity for students to learn reading and writing skills for non-fiction texts. Links in with PSHE covering body image. Works really well with top set year 9 students or even year 10 students who need to learn non-fiction analysis ready for their language exam.
Grammar, spelling and Punctuation practise and revise
A variety of powerpoint lessons to review, revise and develop understanding of basic grammar, spelling and punctuation. Includes whole powerpoint lessons on parts of speech, different types of punctuation such as the apostrophe, suffixes, prefixes, homophones, antonyms and synonyms as well as literary devices such as the use of metaphor. Great as fill-in lessons or just lock down revision.
AQA LangLit A'level intro to Paris Anthology
AQA Introduction to A’level study of combined English Language and English Literature. This thirty lesson, six-week scheme of learning with 30 powerpoints and resources is designed to help students in a fun way to make a smooth transition between GCSE and A’level. It both builds onto and revises GCSE English literature and language skills, introducing linguistic and literary frames of analysis necessary for the study of the AQA Paris Anthology. Each week introduces a new frame and short exercises using quality extracts which build to the study of a variety of the Paris anthology texts with both the spoken and written modes. A quick cultural capital exercise and quizzes are included in each lesson, further helping disadvantaged students to bridge the gap.
