I am the Lorax! I speak for the trees!
The Lorax is the superhero of Earth Day. This Lorax activity is the perfect way to decorate your classroom and teach your kiddos about Earth Day. Whether hanging from the ceiling or sitting on the shelf, your kiddos will love creating and putting on their own personal touches on these cuties.
Paper lanterns are great for developing fine motor skills such as: folding, coloring, painting, gluing, cutting, listening and following directions. Even my smallest kiddos can cut out the Lorax pieces. Embedded within this Lorax project are several activities for your kiddos…coloring, printing skills or writing.
These units are designed in a Mix and Match format. You are able to pick the pieces that you want, depending on the needs and the abilities of your students. There are so many different possibilities and various cutting templates.
Each Lorax lantern creation is designed with printed templates. As an option, before we start the lantern creation phase, I have my older kiddos research and write facts they have found about key environmental issues on the back of the lantern, on the arms and the legs. With my Kindies, we will write key words, draw pictures or write simple sentences. On the “body” of the Lorax the kids can copy the “Unless, someone like you”…phrase or design their own.
There are so many ways to create the Lorax lanterns using glitter, paper layering, leaves, shredded paper, tissue paper... Make sure to add the Lorax legs and arms…too cute!
In my classroom, creating the basic lantern will take my kiddos about 90 minutes (coloring & assembly) . Depending on if I am doing additional extensions or research, the lanterns will take me longer. I break up the creation process into small chunks, working on one piece at a time to ensure that my kids do the best job that they can. I make sure to always model each step of the lantern.
Included:
• Printed lantern templates
• Glue-on Lorax Face parts
• Lorax legs, arms and embellishments….check out the preview to see everything included

Paper Bag Valentine Post Office Craft
So many possibilities and extensions.
A Valentine craft for everyone in your classroom. 13 different roof tops and 18 front of Post Office designs…let your kids choose their own designs to create their own Post Office Valentine Day card holder.
I have used this simple craft in my room for years. Every year we create these Valentine Post offices. On Valentine’s Day the kids come in with their Valentine cards and delight in reading the names on the cards and delivering them to their correct Postal Box. Once the chaos is completed and all the Valentine cards are hand-out all I have to do is staple up the roof together and Voila! Valentines are packed up and ready to go home.
The kids love colouring all the bits and pieces and then sticking them on to create their own unique Post Offices. I have created very easy houses…trim, colour and glue. For the more complicated Post Office, we start with the “basic” office…colour, cut and glue on the bits. Then, for the kids who excel in fine motor, they just love colouring, cutting and adding all the bits and pieces to their projects, including the sides and the back of the Post Office. Make this project as simple or complex as needed.
I love adding the pieces to cutting trays in my Montessori classroom for cutting exercises.
Included:
• Printed craft templates
• Picture how to page
• Mix & Match Post Office parts
• Step by step instructions

Honour the Memory. Never Forget.
A wonderful Poppy Project to honor Remembrance Day, Veteran's Day, Memorial Day and Anzac Day.
There are 12 lantern designs and 14 trim sets with various messages of Remembrance.
These units are created in a Mix and Match format. You are able to pick the pieces that you want depending on the needs and the abilities of your students. There are so many different possibilities.
This unit can be approached in several ways. Either as a quick Poppy project that will take about 90 minutes to complete. Or as long, in-depth project that will take upwards of a week to complete. In my classroom, creating the basic lantern will take my kiddos about 90 minutes (coloring and assembly). Adding on large Poppies or Message Ribbons will take an additional 45 to 60 minute blocks of time. I normally read a Peace storybook for my Kiddos. Then we create one large Poppy circle for each Peace related book, writing and drawing one element from the story that is important. Use this Peace project as the center piece for your Remembrance, Veterans, Anzac or Memorial Day units.
In Elementary grades, keep this project simple. Colour or paint the lanterns. On the back of the flower embellishments have the kids write a sentence about what Peace Is. I love reading Todd Parr's book...Peace Is.
In Intermediate Grades, on the back of the Poppies, have your kiddos research the different wars...record the name of the war and the death toll. I always find it shocking the number of people who have died to keep us safe. We shall never forget...
In High School, especially in Grade 11 Socials, get the kids to research one of the wars or peace keeping missions. Either have them draw on or behind the words images of peace/war. Use the flowers or their own symbols of peace to add notes about their research.

Paper Bag Gingerbread House
A Christmas craft for everyone in your classroom. Created with Christmas and non-Christmas themed houses. In my classroom I have a least 6 different religious beliefs. With a few adaptions, everyone can create and build the Gingerbread house of their dreams.
I have used this simple craft in my room for years. Every year we make wonderful hand-printed Christmas ornaments. We have our Kindergartens make these adorable Gingerbread Paper Bag Houses to “wrap” their ornaments to take home. This Christmas wrapping paper is so much easier than having little hands trying to wrap-up their gifts. On the back of each roof is a “To and From” tag. This makes my life so much easier!
These bags look very cute as a Gingerbread House Village display stuffed with paper.
The kids love coloring all the bits and pieces and then sticking them on to create their own unique House. I have created very easy houses…trim, color and glue. For the more complicated house, we start with the “basic” house…color, cut and glue on the bits.
