11 Plus Year 4 Foundation Course It can be confusing knowing which 11 plus resources to start with when you are starting your prep early. This is why, after many of my tutees in year 4 never had work that was the perfect level for them, I created this set of resources. This comprehensive plan is well-rounded, structured and covers all topics to build a strong foundation in time for the real exams. Focusing on individual skills, mental maths, vocabulary building and spelling, your student will feel much more confident after completing this course. In-person courses can obviously be a hefty price and so this plan covers all that would be taught in-person at a much more affordable price. You can find the plan here

11 Plus English Core Skills 11 Plus Foundation Course 11 Plus Summer Intensive Course Year 4 should be the least stressful part of the 11 Plus journey, in fact the student should only be spending 120 minutes maximum every week of doing work. Gradually the time spent on revision should increase, however it shouldn’t be labelled as a ‘chore’, make the transition as smooth as possible. In English it is important to keep on revisiting terms: grammar, punctuation, etc… It’s very easy to get quickly out of tune with SPaG. To have good creative writing skills, being able to tackle comprehension questions, verbal reasoning and more, you need to have the ‘English core skills’ Before advancing to formal English tests, it’s vital that the pupil has the knowledge and skills of basic English for the 11 Plus. English core skills is aimed to cover these topics so that the pupil can feel confident to move onto assessments. Note that this is ‘stage one’ of the foundation, so in the next stages the pupils will be introduced to ‘short’ and ‘long’ English tests. They will be prepared for this as they have gathered the skills from this book

11 Plus Maths Vocabulary List This resource is the ultimate list to learn all of the key maths terms that your student will come across in the 11 Plus, and in preparation for KS3.

The maths behind the coronavirus unit of work This resource contains three lessons on the maths behind the coronavirus, useful for students in year five to nine. Each lesson is planned with warm ups (starters), main, and cool downs (plenary), and worksheets to complete in the lesson. Lesson one focuses on how the economy rapidly changed during this period of time. Lesson two focuses on vaccines, and how we can use maths to help create the perfect vaccine. Lesson three focuses on the maths behind social distancing and how we can use data and statistics to back up our points and make factual statements. This is a perfect opportunity for students to learn some maths beyond the curriculum.

Charles Darwin Fact File and Comprehension This resource is an effective and fun way to be introduced to key information about Charles Darwin and his life. Contains 10 questions and detailed mark scheme.

Place Value Top Trumps This superb resource can be used with year 3/4 students to consolidate understanding of place value in complex numbers. Use these cards as a plenary to go over concepts in a fun way. My students really enjoyed this activity- and competition was ripe in the classroom!
