You have recently been given the responsibility of managing absences in your school or perhaps you are already in this position. You have a crucial role in ensuring the school runs smoothly, which can be very complex and challenging. This ten-page document will provide you with many useful tips and is organised into the following sections: getting started, beginning of the day, during the day, end of day and general tips. Also included are forms for absences and supply teachers. This document is aimed at organising a primary school but many ideas are also relevant to secondary.
I have led English in several primary schools and had a positive impact on improving both reading results and attitudes to reading. Strategies for this have included whole school initiatives, providing training for staff and organising exciting book weeks. This document contains 100 ideas for improving reading standards and encouraging a love of reading in primary schools. Tips are organised into the following categories: whole school initiatives, in-class activities, home reading, strategies for phonics and staff training.
This pack includes resources to encourage pupils to read at home and includes: tips for parents on home reading, letters for parents who are/ are not reading regularly with their children, certificate, chart, reading strategy poster and a home reading challenge.

This resource consists of a PowerPoint presentation with four supporting word documents for an hour-long training session on methods for teaching reading.
Includes:
- looking at a range of methods of teaching reading from the past and present
- an activity in which staff attempt to decode five mystery texts
- discussion of diagrams which show the skills used for reading
- a task to match activities to reading skills
and
- an opportunity for teachers to reflect on the provision for reading in their own classrooms.

This resource has been tried and tested and the children loved it! This resource consists of a PowerPoint presentation with ten punctuation and grammar activities reflecting the spelling, punctuation and grammar requirements from the year 2 curriculum for English: capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, time conjunctions,
compound sentences, subordination, apostrophes for possession, noun phrases and commas in lists. These activities are based on an animal theme and each one lasts for 5- 15 minutes.
