I have created a set of art activities that can be used with work undertaken in the Literacy Hour. They are designed to introduce the children to a range of tools, techniques and materials as well as to create pictures as a stimulus for storytelling and creative writing.
Each activity is linked to a passage of the story to encourage children to respond imaginatively and for describing characters, settings and events. I have used this method many times in KS1 and the writing produced by the children is always remarkable!
Use the PowerPoint for each part of the story:
• as a starting point - images can be used to encourage descriptions and use of adjectives.
• to see list of equipment
• to follow instructions for the art activity
Follow up activities:
• The children write a passage of the story that relates to each picture (use writing sheets template if needed).
The set includes 1 x PowerPoint with introductions, list of art equipment and instructions for each art activity, planning with examples of each art work and Art Curriculum Teaching Objectives and Learning Outcomes, captions, blank writing sheet, story sequencing and story plan worksheets.
Hope that you like and find them useful. If you have any comments or recommendations to make, please do not hesitate to do so.

A Bingo game that will encourage a lot of discussions as you play :)
Can be used as a way to assess children’s knowledge.
There are 2 different boards, each with matching sets of pictures of dinosaurs with names; group names (carnivore, herbivore); and descriptions.
Playing: Children attempt to match each picture with a dinosaur; match additional sets of cards, wherever it is a carnivore or herbivore; and then guess the dinosaurs when reading the description cards.
Children can check their answers - answer sheet for each bingo board included.
I have also created worksheets and posters that can be used as a starting point (sold separately).

• Put pictures in the correct order (cut and paste) to show how wind-up toys have changed over time
DT worksheets:
• Draw a win-up toy and label the different parts of the mechanism
• Designing (part 1): illustrate idea and label different parts to show how it will work
• Designing (part 2): list materials, equipment and plan stages of making
