Stories From Other Cultures - Aboriginal

(9)
This is a resource suitable for an entire lesson in upper KS2. The text is an aboriginal story called ‘The Spear’ and was taken from the website http://education.abc.net.au/home#!/digibook/2570774/dust-echoes, which has since been archived. The lesson introduces the concept of storytelling, the full text and comprehension activities. Available as a NOTEBOOK file, a POWERPOINT and also a PDF. I used this with Y5/6. If you love it, please leave me a review!
Pencil Art Worksheet
misspoolescoolschoolmisspoolescoolschool

Pencil Art Worksheet

(3)
A worksheet to help children practice pencil skills for art such as shading and blending. I usually do this over a double lesson with Year 4 or above, and I emphasise the need to work very, very slowly and carefully, focusing on correct pencil grip and varied pressure. They love it when I tell them this is how ‘real artists’ use pencils! If you love it, please leave me a review!
Ink Shading Techniques

Ink Shading Techniques

(1)
A worksheet to practise artistic techniques in ink (hatching, cross-hatching and stippling). I recommend that the children use black fineliner pens if possible, as ballpoint pens tend to be a bit too smudgy.

Analysing Linguistic Features of a Text KS2

(1)
A whole-class presentation to discuss the meaning of literary terms such as alliteration, repetition and metaphor, plus an activity sheet (differentiated three ways) to support the children in analysing their own text. A good text to use is The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes (available in full for free online) or they could use any other text they are currently studying. If you love it, please leave me a review!
KS2 Techniques for Adding Colour to Drawings

KS2 Techniques for Adding Colour to Drawings

(1)
Use this worksheet to teach your KS2 or lower KS3 pupils how to use pencil crayons in a more artistic, grown-up fashion. Focus on having them take their time, pay attention to detail and not just cover up the blanks with colour. For a more detailed guide and more Art lesson plans, check out the other resources in my shop. If you love it, please leave me a review!
Mental Addition Strategies Starter

Mental Addition Strategies Starter

(1)
Quick mental addition questions to do as a whole class on the board. I asked the children to work out the answer mentally and write it down on a whiteboard and then show me. The main focus of this activity was to discuss the different ways in which we might reach the same conclusion, e.g. rounding, partitioning etc. Includes seven questions of differing difficulty. Keynote and PowerPoint formats. Suited for a starter or plenary. If you love it, please leave me a review!

Human Body Proportions Quiz (with answers)

(0)
Can be used in Maths or Art. A simple one-page quiz with five questions about human body proportions. The children are usually really surprised at the answers - and, of course, love trying to disprove them! Could be suitable for a starter or plenary.

(0)
'Draw three pictures that show three different things that happened in your book. Be prepared to explain them to the class' Simple homework activity. When the children bring it back to school, choose one or more children to show their work to the class and explain what's happening in the pictures. Party Planning - Area and Perimeter

LO: I can plot shapes with a specific area and perimeter. A fun and creative activity for children to practice what they know about area and perimeter by plotting furniture items on a grid, according to set values for area and perimeter. Example question: There are four speakers in the corners of the room with an area of 4cm² each. Choose a colour to represent them. Fill in the key with the colour you have used. Use as revision for lower-achieving pupils for Year 6 SATs, or to introduce area and perimeter in Year 3.

Decoupage horse art project
misspoolescoolschoolmisspoolescoolschool

Decoupage horse art project

(0)
A ready-to-print kit for making an A4 piece of decoupage art. The picture is of a horse on a sunset landscape. Involves very fiddly cutting which probably isn’t suitable for younger than Year Four. I strongly recommend doing a mini-project on cutting skills first (I’ve uploaded a Scissor Skills Workbook which is from SparkleBox) and emphasise the importance of precision! A tricky project which produces beautiful pictures with very few resources needed (colour printer, card, scissors, sticky foam squares or blu-tack).

Includes: Presentation for whole-class input (PowerPoint, Keynote and PDF file types) News article printable handouts Writing templates If you love it, please leave me a review!
