A simple yet engaging ‘trick’ for any age or ability, I’ve used this worksheet with KS1, 2 and 3. All the child needs to do is write any number in the star and then double and halve it according to the instructions, so this can be easily differentiated with different sizes of numbers. Why not challenge the more able pupils by giving special conditions for the starter numbers they come up with? ‘Must be odd’, ‘All the digits must add up to 17’, ‘No zeros’ etc. Hours of fun! A worksheet which challenges children’s knowledge of time and of the Earth’s rotation, beginning with relatively simple ones -“How long does it take the Earth to rotate on its axis?” - and ending with very difficult ones - “In a month, the Earth rotates on its axis between __ and __ times. Explain why this changes.” Includes an answer sheet. Suitable for Key Stage Two.

Days of the week word problems on two separate worksheets, which start off relatively easy and get more difficult, with a riddle at the end to challenge early finishers. A 14-week scheme of work for Art, suitable for Years 4, 5 or 6. Could be adapted for secondary pupils. Focuses mainly on basic art skills such as cutting, pencil skills, ink skills, adding colour, and then moving on to more complex projects. A visual aid to remember the order of speech marks. On the speech burger goes 1. The bottom bun - The opening speech marks (66) 2. The burger - The speech 3. The salad and toppings - The punctuation e.g. comma, exclamation mark etc. 4. The top bun - The closing speech marks (99) I tell the children to imagine putting a burger together, so that they remember to start from the bottom and not from the top. Two mini worksheets on one A4 page. The child has to find several examples of 'boring' adjectives, verbs etc. from their book, and then list some suggested alternatives. Good for work on word classes or synonyms.

'Draw three pictures that show three different things that happened in your book. Be prepared to explain them to the class' Simple homework activity. When the children bring it back to school, choose one or more children to show their work to the class and explain what's happening in the pictures. Good for those who aren't yet able to write a formal review of their book.

A simple ten-week three-target chart for behaviour management or other achievements. Each week is numbered and you then add the date, a smiley, neutral or sad face to represent whether the target has been achieved, and a comment. For example, you might choose three targets such as ‘I will keep my desk tidy,’ ‘I will remember my homework,’ and ‘I will use joined-up writing’, and then you tick them off each week for ten weeks. Can be used in Maths or Art. A simple one-page quiz with five questions about human body proportions. The children are usually really surprised at the answers - and, of course, love trying to disprove them! Could be suitable for a starter or plenary.

Activity: A4 half portraits of Henry VIII and his six wives; children to complete the missing half of the portrait. They are differentiated - the easiest ones are almost symmetrical, but to complete the harder ones the children must have some understanding of facial proportions and perspective. Assessment: A4 pictures of Henry VIII and his Six Wives for reference - show these when they have finished their portraits to see what they should have looked like! Used with Year Four and up.

A ready-to-print kit for making an A4 piece of decoupage art. The picture is of a horse on a sunset landscape. Involves very fiddly cutting which probably isn’t suitable for younger than Year Four. I strongly recommend doing a mini-project on cutting skills first (I’ve uploaded a Scissor Skills Workbook which is from SparkleBox) and emphasise the importance of precision! A tricky project which produces beautiful pictures with very few resources needed (colour printer, card, scissors, sticky foam squares or blu-tack).

A worksheet to practise artistic techniques in ink (hatching, cross-hatching and stippling). I recommend that the children use black fineliner pens if possible, as ballpoint pens tend to be a bit too smudgy.

A step-by-step guide on how to make a pop-up pumpkin Hallowe'en card, with full colour photographs. Can be printed off for the children to use.

A worksheet to help children practice pencil skills for art such as shading and blending. I usually do this over a double lesson with Year 4 or above, and I emphasise the need to work very, very slowly and carefully, focusing on correct pencil grip and varied pressure. Quick mental addition questions to do as a whole class on the board. I asked the children to work out the answer mentally and write it down on a whiteboard and then show me. The main focus of this activity was to discuss the different ways in which we might reach the same conclusion, e.g. rounding, partitioning etc. Includes seven questions of differing difficulty.
