This is Day 1 of a three-day Pie Charts unit of work for year 6. Day 1 focusses on conceptual understanding. Children will develop the idea of a circle representing a value (e.g. 100%, 1, 50 etc) and that the segments of that circle will have a specific value depending on their size. This lesson is an essential first step before attempting to answer questions about, or construct, pie charts. The challenge activity tasks the children with drawing in lines when given certain values - a basic introduction to constructing pie charts.

Interpret and construct pie charts and line graphs and use these to solve problems

Year 1 Maths and Science Assessments
This is a collection of mental maths papers/tests for Year 3. The spreadsheet includes four sheets differentiated four ways (LA, MA, HA and Challenge) and includes answer sheets. What makes these different to other published mental maths material, is that each sheet can be randomised by simply pushing F9 on your keyboard, so there are almost an unlimited combination of questions for each paper. This means they can be used as often as you like with very little repetition. Use them daily, weekly, termly or as you wish. Use them for early bird, homework or to regularly assess the children's mental computation. Also included on the sheet is a record sheet if you wish to track pupil progress - simply fill in the names and record the results in the grid (scores will be colour coded for easy analysis). The previews represent just a fraction of the sheets that can be produced!
Objectives covered:
Count from 0 in multiples of 4, 8, 50 and 100; find 10 or 100 more or less than a given number
Recognise the place value of each digit in a 3-digit number (100s, 10s, 1s)
Compare and order numbers up to 1,000
Add and subtract numbers mentally, including: a three-digit number and 1s; a three-digit number and 10s; a three-digit number and 100s
Estimate the answer to a calculation and use inverse operations to check answers
