Written for the AQA English Language GCSE (9-1), this lesson is used to compare the poems Love's Philosophy and Sonnet 29 for paper 2. During the lesson; there are overviews of the two poems, question analysis, how to write a concise introduction, model example, writing frame for the essay, overview of the AO's and how to achieve level 6 (for the question band.

This is written for any pupil who is planning a piece of narrative or descriptive writing. There is space in the centre of the sheet to write down the question or their central idea. Around this idea there is then space for pupils to plan for 3PSAMOSA; 3 - Triples P - Personaification S - Simile A - Alliteration M - Metaphor O - Onomatopoeia S - Senses A - Adjectives. It is great for lower ability pupils in getting their ideas down in a logical way, thank you :)

A really great powerpoint that my GCSE English groups loved and found really helpful! The lesson is in regards to how to approach various Christmas Carol exam questions for the AQA English Literature exam. During the lesson pupils recognise the key components of the extract question, how to decode the question, practice finding quotes from the extract, consider quotes from the wider text and analyse a key quote. Pupils then create a practice PETAL analysis paragraph that they could use in the exam as exam preparation. There are 9 various questions. A lesson that was aimed towards those who are studying for the AQA English Literature exam, A Christmas Carol. In this lesson pupils create a revision map around the characters of the novella. They are required to make links between key characters, the themes and key quotes that link them together. The pupils really enjoyed this and especially thinking back to the structure and links between characters they hadn’t thought of! A really fun and creative wait to revise the novella! A PPT and activity that aids writing critically for GCSE English lit - AQA (but easily adaptable). In this lesson pupils will use dominoes based on CC to consider links between key ideas in the novella. They need to debate and argue how their links work. There are 4 clean dominoes for pupils to put extra ideas in too, as a challenge. Then they use this as a stimulus to write a critical commentary on the novella, using new ideas they may not have thought about before. Pupils really enjoyed this! A lesson, which could stretch over two, 1 hour, periods this lesson prepares key stage 3 for a practice language exam. This lesson is based on the sample AQA English Language Key Stage 3 paper which avaliable on their site, I cannot put this as an attachment due to copyright laws BUT this is very easy to find on the AQA site. The lesson walks the pupils, step by step, through question 1,2,4, and 5 by using model examples and top tips to answer each questions - there is also time for the pupils to have a go at this question too. Question 3 is omitted from this ppt as we don’t include it on our own examination for key stage 3, but it can be easily added if required. Many thanks for looking :)
