This is a booklet I created for a CPD I led on 'Writing for meaning'. It features information and details for staff of how to teach different types of writing (transactional writing) - including example tasks they could ask pupils to complete based on the type of writing they want to include in their lessons.
Used with a low ability year 10, this PEEL table is used to analyse the poem in regards to the theme of mourning and loss; a part of the Conflict section of the Eduqas Anthology. It is easy to adapt and highlights the when the pupils are hitting the assessment objectives (AO1/2/3). Pupils found the step by step approach to analysing a poem really helpful and can be easily differentiated with sentence stems for example.
A literacy lesson for Key Stage 3 in which pupils practise their use of suffixes. This will test pupils prior knowledge of suffixes and how to recognise and use them within creative writing. This focuses on using an autobiography, Going Solo by Roald Dahl, to support.
Lots of different resources to use in a wide range of lessons in regards to improving, practising and revising literacy within subjects. These can be used across different subjects, different age ranges and obviously please feel to adapt these to however you need it!

Attached is a blank quote bank for pupils to fill in as they are reading the play. This allows pupils to have a handy booklet rather than skim through the entire play. There is also a section for reflection about the dramatic devices used by Williams and their impact on the reader. Many thanks!
This is a resource for everybody reading in class (ERIC) of which gets pupils reading and discussing the issue of the upcoming General Election 2017. Included is a powerpoint used for form time and the manifestos of the Labour and Conservative parties. In the powerpoint there are debate questions and key ideas surrounding the issue. Low ability version of the article is also attached with a glossary. UKIP and Lid Dem version to follow.
A lesson in which pupils cover what is meant by the IPERSUADE devices used for a persuasive speech. This speech links to the pupil's study of Romeo and Juliet and towards the question 'Should Romeo and Juliet REALLY be allowed to get married?'
This gives pupils the opportunity to practice their AO5/6 skills for English language and mixing their AO1/3 skills for Literature. This was a really engaging activity and pupils loved arguing their point of view on the issue.
This lesson is a great one off big write lesson for any key stage, but this is aimed at year 10 (easily adapted). They have to write using the title 'The attack' in which they can use vocabulary from 'Charge of the light brigade' and the lesson also goes through how to achieve top band, inspiration from Jurassic Park, model example and writing frame.

A lesson that was aimed towards those who are studying for the AQA English Literature exam, A Christmas Carol.
In this lesson pupils create a revision map around the characters of the novella. They are required to make links between key characters, the themes and key quotes that link them together. The pupils really enjoyed this and especially thinking back to the structure and links between characters they hadn’t thought of! A really fun and creative wait to revise the novella!

A lesson, which could stretch over two, 1 hour, periods this lesson prepares key stage 3 for a practice language exam.
This lesson is based on the sample AQA English Language Key Stage 3 paper which avaliable on their site, I cannot put this as an attachment due to copyright laws BUT this is very easy to find on the AQA site.
The lesson walks the pupils, step by step, through question 1,2,4, and 5 by using model examples and top tips to answer each questions - there is also time for the pupils to have a go at this question too. Question 3 is omitted from this ppt as we don’t include it on our own examination for key stage 3, but it can be easily added if required.

Based on the look, say, cover, write, check system, this booklet is Term one of three which will take spellings tests throughout the entire academic year. Each week has a different topic and gives pupils three chances to check their spellings of each word.
Also attached are the spelling slips for the first six weeks of this terms booklet, in order for your print the weeks' spellings out and give them to pupils a week before their test. They are fairly easy to create following on from week six.
The booklet also allows you to easily keep track of scores with a big score counter in the corner and allows an observer to recognise whether you have awarded commendations/merits (whatever you use!)

Attached is a short booklet/task in which pupils are required to comment on the use of key language and devices used by Conrad for specific effect. They are also required to comment on the impact this quote has on the reader. I found this excellent revision for my A level pupils when completing the reading of the prose.

Used with Year 12 AS Level, Edexcel A Level Literature. This is an introductory lesson to the novel, discussing and working towards a timeline of Conrad's life and influences and also how Conrad uses the technique of an intrusive narrator and how this is used within the novel. This discussion/work should influence their reading in regards to Conrad's writing style.
