The focus of this booklet follows on the Under the sea theme, with the focus being on Whales. Dyan Sheldon "The Whales' Song" is beautifully read in a youtube clip, however I recommend buying the picture book to add to your collection. The illustrations in it are stunning, and you can see how closely the illustrator David Blythe and author have worked to bring this story to life. How to use this resource?
Students can use mirrors to help them to see the final image! The opportunity is there to copy from both the left and the right side of the image… fun challenge to test symmetry skills!
Finishing off
Once completed the outline, encourage your students to examine the color wheel to use complimentary, analagous, warm or cool colors for a different effect for each one. Use this as a research opportunity to explore the color palettes most widely used to complete these images.
