Advanced Stage drawing has been designed for students approx 13-16 years or those who would assess their current ability as: “I’m quite good at drawing, I draw often, but I want to improve so that I can draw and shade difficult things.” At this level of drawing you are challenged to construct, measure, shade and draw a more complex group of objects, rendering shading and detail with greater accuracy and precision. By the end of this stage students should be fully confident in drawing from observation and will only need to practise those skills further. The download contains: Advanced Measuring exercises, Advanced Shading exercises, Complex Drawing video (20 mins Plus assessment sheets. Contains 2 longer Windows format videos, 4 Powerpoint presentations and a fully illustrated marks scheme.

Birds of Paradise

Learn about the fabulous birds of New Guinea and how they have evolved into some of the most stunning creatures on the planet. Teach sketchbook recording techniques, art methods and my own technique of making birds using PVA glue. This is a lovely craft project for younger art students and is such a huge topic, it can easily be developed into a cross-curricular theme with science, geography and maths. One for younger children.

A project that combines digital techniques with observational drawing. The lesson teaches students how to use Adobe Photoshop Elements by means of a detailed step-by-step exercise. You can use free online software if you don’t have Photoshop (links included). There is also a detailed guide to drawing faces from observation with supporting worksheets. The skills are then combined into a fun Surrealist Dream project. This is especially liked by the boys, they LOVE doing the Photoshop side of the project. I've had great results teaching this project and so will you. It also comes with links to artist resources on Pinterest.

12 Contemporary Drawing Lessons

(0)
The Ebook features twelve stimulating, unique and creative approaches to drawing that do not require realistic drawing skills. Using common, everday resources, each exercise links to a contemporary artist so that your students can relate the activity to professional practice. Drawing has never been this enjoyable! The Contemporary drawing Practice exercises are suitable for students aged 11 - 16. You do not need to be an art specialist to be able to teach these lessons because the children will be able to teach themselves. Just print them out in colour and laminate them. Each exercise contains learning objectives, step by step instructions, full colour photos of artists work, research tasks and extension work. Note: All images remain the property of the artist and no unauthorised copying or distribution is allowed. Consent and permission has been granted by the artists to use these images for educational purposes and for use in your classroom.
the Art of Questions

the Art of Questions

(1)
The art of questions is a guide to developing a question based curriculum for art, craft and design. It shows you how to design art projects using deep questions for pupils of any age group as well as how to develop questions for supporting students, exploring art materials, becoming an independent learner and in order that they can become thinking intelligent students. It isn't just for high ability or older students because it shows you how to differentiate your questioning to suit pupils of any age or ability. It is a practical guide that stems from actual classroom practice. Raise attainment and engagement , open the door to pupil-centred teaching and ditch the teacher-led model. Teaching art in this way is less demanding, creative and fun! It is written by a UK Advanced Skills Art Teacher experienced in UK Primary and Secondary art teaching and an education consultant.

Intermediate Stage is for more advanced Primary Middle school students or Secondary Junior High to develop into observational drawing. This stage is a significant step towards understanding observational drawing. 50 Artists Primary pupils should know

50 Artists Primary pupils should know

(0)
Famous Western Artists Primary K-6 pupils should know. By this I mean that they should have seen images by these artists and remember key details about when and where they lived. These artists could support work done in other subject areas. All dates are approximate. It is not suggested that Primary K-6 students should know every artist on this list, but rather that they should know and understand the main movements and how art has changed. There is a great activity I have written that does this called my art timeline game which is available to download free from my website. There are also too many brilliant artists not mentioned here that I have omitted to keep things simple. By the time we get to Contemporary art you can pretty much choose what you like! The resource contains a link to all the images you need via Google Art Institute.

I designed this scheme of work nearly ten years ago and it is still as interesting and exciting now as it was then. It combines brilliantly with science lessons about life on other planets. It teaches young people how to design within design constraints, use their imagination and think about how different life evolves. Use it with my Alien Landscape project to get the full effect.

Mark Making in drawing

(5)
This is a great drawing lesson that really extends your students' understanding of drawing and helps them take their first steps into abstraction and expression. You might need to adapt it to suit the literacy level of your pupils, but it is suitable for Key Stage 2 or 3, in fact I've seen it adapted for KS1. Included in this presentation are links to artists work.
