This book brings together some of the very best worksheets for teachers and students of English.
Whether you are a teacher or a student we hope that you will find something here to inspire you and make English language learning fun and relevant. The worksheets can be photocopied freely and are primarily intended for use with Entry Level students, although they will also provide useful practise for learners at all levels.
These worksheets have been written by an experienced English language teacher and used in English classes with learners from a wide variety of countries. At the back of the book is a short collection of fun classroom games that have been similarly tried and tested. Some may be familiar while others are original. In publishing descriptions of these games we are not in any way claiming credit for inventing them or owning them - our aim has been to collect together games that work and get a great response from students.
Talk a Lot - Spoken English Course - Public Domain Book
A Great New Way to Learn Spoken English
Elementary Handbook
• General Information about Talk a Lot Courses
• How to Use Talk a Lot Resources
• Focus on Connected Speech
• Focus on the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)
• 100% Photocopiable
This handbook shows you how to use Talk a Lot materials to learn or teach spoken English,
as well as providing background information and practice worksheets on related topics, such
as connected speech, sentence and word stress, and the International Phonetic Alphabet
(IPA).
The Talk a Lot course objectives are very simple:
• Every student talking in English
• Every student listening to and understanding English
• Every student thinking in English, and
• Every student taking part in class
Talk a Lot is structured so that every student can practise and improve English grammar,
vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, word and sentence stress, and interpersonal skills, by
working in pairs, groups and one to one with the teacher.
The main benefits of Talk a Lot are:
• Students have to think in English during lessons in a controlled and focused way
• Students learn how to memorise correct English structures naturally, without abstract
and unrelated grammar lessons
• Students learn how to construct eight different common verb forms, using positive,
negative and question forms, as well as embedded grammar appropriate to their
level. The verb forms studied are: Present Simple, Present Continuous, Past Simple,
Past Continuous, Present Perfect, Modal Verbs, Future Forms, and First Conditional
• Students learn many essential vocabulary words by heart, including word stress and
the sounds of English
• Students learn how to become more fluent when speaking in English, by joining
together words in a sentence using the techniques of connected speech
• Students enjoy following a simple and effective method that produces results quickly.
This handbook is not intended to be an exhaustive academic work. The aim was to write a
brief, helpful guide and pack of resources that would provide a way into practise and
language work in the classroom, rather than a dry, analytical manual. For example, I have
deliberately avoided confusing jargon when writing about connected speech. Phrases like
“bilabial plosive” and “palato-alveolar approximate” – though fun to say – can be studied later,
or at the student’s leisure.
You could look at it directly as a presentation and discuss the different toys being shown in each of the photos.
You could print off and laminate the photos to make an interesting, eye-catching set of story prompts.
The students could also take five of the laminated photos and create them into a story .
The photos could also be used as prompts for creative writing, factual writing or descriptive writing.

, BGB 2 is packed with 101 printable worksheets for teaching and improving grammar skills in English. The topics are wide and varied, starting with Essential English worksheets that cover the basics, like the alphabet, days, months, and telling the time; then tenses (a lot about tenses!), then irregular verbs, question forms, word order in sentences, parts of English, uncountable nouns, and so on! If you have used the first BGB, you will know what to expect from this one. Around 25% of the worksheets in this book are closely modelled on activities in BGB 1, for example Full Stops 1 & 2 (pp.68-69).
The material starts off at beginner level, with the alphabet worksheets, then gets progressively more difficult, while staying in Elementary (A1 / A2) level. Only towards the end do things get “tougher”, with articles, conditionals, and phrasal verbs making their inevitable appearance! Don’t worry – all the answers and notes for use are included at the back of this book.
English teachers can use big grammar book 2 in class, although it may be better to use the worksheets for homework and let students focus on speaking and listening and group work – producing language – in class. It is ideal for private study – i.e. homework or self-study – and also for use in online lessons. Teachers can adapt the worksheets in this book, and I would positively encourage them to treat many of the pages as templates for producing their own activities. For example, the sentence building worksheets (from p.60) would be ideal for adaptation, among many others.
I hope you enjoy learning English with big grammar book 2!
Remember, a good understanding of English grammar will open doors of opportunity.
Here are lots of different fun teaching resources for students who are learning to speak English as a second language, or for students who want to revise and improve their understanding of English. This is perfect for both an home or school setting.
Qatar History and Citizenship is a compulsory subject for any primary school teacher in Qatar.
When I taught this subject in Qatar, I was surprised to discover how thin the student text book was, how little resources were available for students on the Internet and that there was no teacher guide to help teachers effectively teach this subject.
This Year 6 teaching pack contains lesson plans and additional worksheets to support 39 weekly lessons. These lessons cover all a student needs to know about the subject, and the lessons are designed to motivate and excite a student's interest in the history around them.
These worksheets could be printed out and used as workbooks in the classroom, sent home as additional homework or shared via an interactive whiteboard.
*** Please note that these resources are designed to be used with the official text book, not as a replacement. ***
FREE Room On The Broom Yellow Hat Reading Questions Makes Positive Thinking Fun!
I noticed that despite this book being a best seller, the schools had very few resources for it and so I decided to focus on providing a set of Thinking Hat reading questions for anyone wanting to complete guided reading on this fabulous book.
Today I have focused on pulling out all the positives from this book. This set of worksheets is easy to differentiate and every child will gain something from it.
Please leave a comment when you have downloaded this set of files.
FREE The Magic Train Black Hat Thinking Activities - Problem Solving Has Never Been So Fun!
Every day I am trying to add some more thinking hat resources I am making for my class to TES. It has been shown that Thinking Hat Questions promote higher thinking and reading skills in children and yet when it came to actually finding lots of these resources on this website, I could not find any and so I am planning to write worksheets each night and share them with everyone. I would love a review of my work and also any suggestions on what other children's books people would like me to add to this collection.
I have been a keen fan of this book for a long time. I was really excited to see as part of the Open Government scheme, I was able to take this book and make it into something I believe is much more user friendly.
When I used the original book with an interactive whiteboard, I was always annoyed at having to skim to the end of the book to show an answer. I wanted it on the next page.
In addition, I have now replaced all the pictured with much more stimulating colourful pictures. I have also taken the time to follow the advice of Dudley council and sorted the different problems into age groups and blocks.
You will notice there is some repetition of problems both between blocks and in different year groups. The students can try the same problem twice at different times, as this is excellent consolidation. It is also an excellent time to suggest students think about how they could change the problem.
How can this be used in the classroom?
This could be used as an assessment at the start or the end of a unit. It also could be used as an emergency set of lessons for any teacher while covering another teacher’s maths classes.
In addition, it is also an excellent set of resources to prepare for different exams. Look at how the students resolve a problem and identify the different ways different students attempt to answer the same problem.
In addition to answering the problems, this is also an excellent time to look into inverse operations. How do we know we have found all the answers? How do we know we have found the correct answer?
I have really enjoyed making these mental maths problems a lot more accessible. I have enjoyed teaching them in a wide range of different classes and I hope that you too will enjoy making maths fun.
FREE The Gruffalo Yellow Thinking Hat Questions Make Positive Thinking Guided Reading Fun!
The Gruffalo is a really nice, feel good book. It is a great book to explore Yellow Hat Thinking questions to their full. These worksheets let you look at the characters, writing postcards home and of course developing a poster about why you liked this book. All these would make fabulous display materials.
I would love to have some feedback from anyone who has successfully used this in their classroom.
I am interested to see if people are interested in my simple Christmas verbs idea. If you are, please leave me a nice comment and suggestions about what other Christmas related topics you would like to see being converted in a series of simple posters.
