This is a differentiated activity based on the recent newspaper article about a bright blue lagoon in Derbyshire of water with a pH of 11.3. This is first a reading exercise and extracting information, followed by a choice of activities for the students including Creative, Writing or Imagination.

This was designed as an end of year, fun but also useful lesson. Each student was given a booklet to work through in pairs, all they needed was some fake blood (which I made by mixing red and brown paint with water), a pipette a metre ruler and a few sheets of A3 paper. After the practical there are some ISA style questions, I told my year 9s we were going to be using this as an indicator for where to start with them during next year's ISA lessons.

Each question has a answer preparation section, a keywords section and a space for the students answer and a mark scheme. There is a PowerPoint with videos for most of the questions and hints on the questions to go on the board. Designed to be used by non-specialists in the run up to the physics exam. With 56 key words based on Particle Physics and Quantum Phenomena, print these off double sided on coloured paper and have your A-level students read the definition, the students then find the matching word, on the back of the matching word is another definition, the students find the next word and link them together in a traditional paper chain, with the word displaying on the outside. A fun way for students to check their understanding of keywords from A-level physics whilst also making decorations to give your lab a festive feel for Christmas!
