I am a music specialist and the music I write is original, tested on children and for the less confident teacher. My aim is to provide you with everything you need to fulfil Topic requirements and those of the National Curriculum (without having to prepare anything.) I provide Power Points/videos and give you mp3s and lyrics. Notation is sometimes given. The instrumental parts are dead easy!

Ben and Shane are year 2 children who wrote a song about the changing seasons. They then used dance e jay to provide a rhythm for their performance. Useful as a stimulus for poetry about the seasons..Method -Brainstorm ideas, Chose most relevant words and then find words which rhyme with them. Machines. Composing for non specialist

A powerpoint with inbuilt videos and guidance to create a composition about machines A silent video is used at the end and children play along side it once they have decided which instruments are appropriate. Children are encouraged to look at the movement of the machines and from that observation, gain clues as to the type of sound, pitch or rhythm could be used. I am using this as part of a topic about the Industrial Revolution\nA stand alone video ' Silent machines ...... ' is available for download if you want to add your class composition to it.

A British composer . Sir John Tavener. A collection of ideas

A video and suggested follow up ideas , including composing, following the work and life of Sir John Tavener. He died in 2013 and his music is well worth a listen to . In order to comply to the size of download that the TES will accept I have put together video with a lower resolution so the quality is not brilliant but acceptable.

composing using' Wind in the willows' characters

.Suitable for non specialist. Easy to follow.\nOne way is to collectively designate the instruments to each of the the 4 Wind in the willows characters. Then, choose a leader for , say, the woodblock, ask them to play something to represent their chosen character, and then let the others copy it.. Repeat 3 times . Add other characters.

Playing the maracas

Most primary classrooms have a few maracas in the store room.Be amazed at the different sounds a maraca can make! This resource contains a song, and 2 videos. One video shows how a maraca can be played. The second shows a maestro playing the maracas. Children are encouraged to explore the sounds a maraca can make. They are asked to make a simple presentation with their maraca and join in with a Spanish song. This lesson can be adapted for a current topic. The videos are included in the PPT. The YouTube links are for acknowledgement.

MadPad on the ipad. A guide to getting started and recording your own sounds

I've taken screenshots of each stage of using Madpad . We start with making a pattern with the existing sound bank and then go on to create our own sounds. You cant use Reflector with Mad pad hence the screen shots I haven't gone into detail with ABA structure . You may need to do some work on patterns before you start here or you could miss that and concentrate on creating rhythms

Work on syllables must precede the lessonDisplay the words. Read them . Which words rhyme? Emphasize that these words must come at the end of the sentence or phrase. Give an example. Children take turns to make up something with few syllables. They take turns with each new word. By the end of a lesson, you have a simple rap.
