A step by step guide for students to create posters in the style of Zeka Designs. The content helps in creating work based on European architecture but can be adapted to suit a portrait project. Written instructions for Photopea included, as well as analysis prompts to break down the contextual sources. Originally completed with Year 9 as an online project but also suitable for GCSE Photography and Graphic Design.

Art & Design cover lesson - introducing students to the work of illustrator Sandra Chevrier, who creates portraits with Marvel character masks covering the face. This worksheet has examples of Chevrier’s work and instructs students to complete their own design over the blank portrait to the left of the page. Please note that this is a worksheet only, not a full lesson or presentation.

A one off Art & Design cover lesson challenging students to create an illustration for a skateboard deck. The sheet explains the task and success criteria, as well as offering visual examples for inspiration. Students are to select one of the eight starting points provided and complete their illustration in the skateboard template, also on the sheet. This task may be extended to allow students to complete their designs digitally, adding colour and texture through Photoshop or Photopea.

Worksheet covering the silhouette illustrations of the artist Kara Walker. The sheet challenges students to depict a well known folktale through the use of silhouettes only. Examples and background information are also supported through the included presentation. This may be used as a one off cover lesson or introduction into a longer project. The work of Kara Walker is perfect for any creative BLM workshops or activities.

A full GCSE Graphic Communication project, guiding students through the creation of a retro mascot character using food and drink as a starting point. The project then has the choice of 5 briefs which students may select to build their project in a more personal manner. The scheme covers drawing and photography but does rely on access to Photoshop to complete most tasks.

Full introductory GCSE Art & Design presentation taking students through various digital and hands on tasks. All tasks link to the theme of Metamorphosis and includes workshop ideas, analysis tasks and development help towards an outcome. Originally used during online distance learning last year, each student makes a copy of the presentation and adds work week by week to show development. This was used for a pre GCSE Year 9 group to give a flavour of work which may be covered but could easily be used to begin a GCSE course or encourage online participation. Lots of media exploration and experimentation is encouraged, with consideration of equipment. Some tasks cover both digital and hands on art, focused on giving a taster of both GCSE Art and Photography course content. A step by step guide taking students through a layered portrait Photoshop tutorial. The slides have easy to follow Photoshop instructions, with examples and screenshots to suit most learning styles. The end product should be achievable within an hour lesson, provided students have a prior knowledge of Photoshop. The slides can be sent to each student to make a copy and attach screenshots, final outcome and written analysis, too.

Photography summer booklet. Prompts encouraging students to take an image each day of their summer holidays. Print the sheet to A3 size and fold using the instructions within the document. Creates a small A6 booklet for students to take away. You may also print double sided and include the inspiration poster as further prompts.

Digital tutorial to create a Magdiel Lopez piece of Graphic Design. Layout in a sketchbook format, students make their own copy and track their progress through the easy to use tutorial. Used for AS Level Graphic Design but suitable for GCSE, BTEC or KS3. Can be used during online learning by using Photopea instead of Photoshop.

A project exploring Matisse’s works and his cut out style. Students link his technique to the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic games, creating a contemporary minimal sports poster. Extending the technique, students progress onto the work of Bernardo Henning, who has influences of Matisse’s shapes and mark making within his designs. The project can be completed by hand, or digitally using Photoshop.

Worksheet introducing students to the work of Lucy Stephen, who creates city themed designs inside a typography letter shape. The resource also includes an A-Z sheet. Simply crop the letter you wish students to complete and print out A5 for the class to complete. Example also attached using this method with B for Birmingham!

Presentation guiding students through a digital drawing of Frida Kahlo and subsequent inspirational poster design. The project celebrates Frida and her iconic style, rather than her paintings, but does offer some narrative and video links to her personal story and background. Although a digital project, this could be adapted to traditional drawings.

A small presentation designed to get pre GCSE Photography students thinking more creatively about the images they take in their own time. The slides suggest possible starting points all linked to the theme of Reflections. There are no technical guides or analytical points, just suggested photographers and potential shoots to try. Has also been set as an online learning project for KS3 students to encourage time away from their screens, whilst still encouraging creativity.

Presentation introducing students to creating zines as a way of presenting projects. The slides take you through a brief history and holds videos of mini documentaries and how to begin your own outcome. The presentation can be adapted to reflect any completed project or used as a starting point to collect visual ideas and recordings. Excellent stimulus to encourage wider thinking on complex issues within society and how to visually represent them.

A Powerpoint exploring the theme of jungle through typography and illustration. The slides begin with a step by step guide to creating a leafy letter using Photopea. Students then develop an illustrated book cover for the Jungle Book using Henri Rousseau’s paintings as inspiration. Originally used during online learning, there are differentiated tasks to consider resources found at home and online accessibilty.

A simple sheeting allowing students to apply pre taught shading and tonal techniques to 3D shapes. Used as a practice builder into more substantial 3D still life drawings.
