Resistivity/Resistance investigation - Length vs. Resistance of pencil graphite

I made a PowerPoint a few years back on how to make a resistor with pencils. Here are (differentiated) instructions explaining to students how to carry out the investigation. Included is the original publisher file if you want to edit it. If you don't have publisher a PDF is also included! To do this experiment you will need a digital multimeter that can measure resistance.

Physics of the Brazuca World Cup Ball

I use this activity with my middle ability year 9 group, but it can be adapted to other abilities. \n\nI showed the YouTube video of the Brazuca ad first, as a quick intro. Then the students need to read through the National Geographic article on the Brazuca and attempt to answer the questions. The article and questions should take around 25 mins or so. \n\nOn the electronic copy of the article, the hyperlinks still work if you want to take it further.

Physics teaching ideas - IMYC Challenge Unit

A set of possible physics teaching ideas for the IMYC Unit 'Challenge'. Please note this is not a scheme of work, but a list of possible teaching ideas, and practicals for the Challenge Unit, I have linked it to the mechanics topics from KS3 in the UK. If you teach, or are about to teach IMYC you are no doubt aware that there are very little teaching ideas for the sciences. I've taken what topics the National Curriculum recommend for physics, and adapted them to IMYC units.
Radiation Doses Activity

Radiation Doses Activity

Activity I do with my groups on size of doses from sources. I teach in Mexico so the word document mentions figures for Mexico. Students can graph using Excel or by hand and then compare different doses of radiation. The image is from the website xkcd and is public domain so can be reproduced. Its a big image and needs to be printed in A3 to be readable. If you cannot print it out the weblink is attached. I really welcome feedback, on how I can improve this resource! Thanks!
