A series of inspiration images to aid pupils begin to think about designing a textile product based upon the theme of insects. Work pages for first thought mind maps for textile techniques and components. Fashion templates with annotation scaffolding to support pupils create sketch A&B, and develop a final Design. This is a tried and tested workbook format for my year 11 students to support exam success.

Introduction to working safely in the textiles workshop; sewing machines, scissors, needles& pins, general behavour. Resource can be used as an introduction lesson to H&S or a stand alone activity for a cover lesson. Fully editable powerpoint lesson and worksheet - starter activity - True/Flase questions, Rules for the room and the designing a comic strip to show how to stay safe / what could go wrong.

Excellent tool for Revision or AFL. A fun way to use dominoes to assess end of topic knowledge or use as a revision tool. Activity contains 28 Dominoes and the blank template pages for the information Dominoes to be placed on top. This could be an** individual / paired or group activity**. This has always been a very successful classroom activity for me, to assess and embed knowledge. If pupils have struggled on a card, get them to** highlight that card** to review - revise again. Topics covered are keywords and knowledge for Woven fabric construction, Bonded Fabric Construction and the Fibre Groups. Distribute cards to pupils and they need to arrange themselves into a circle or line with the cards in the correct order. Could be played as a whole class activity or in small groups at the table. Resource includes class power point with instruction slide, the dominoes in the correct order for the class to check through on completion and blank domino slides for pupils to make their own cards if they wanted to. The powerpoint slides are fully editable.

A KS2 to KS3 design brief to make a new pair of novelty spectacles. Resources include a power point to step through the research and designing process with supporting worksheet pages for pupils to complete the work on. This was designed by myself for a primary liaison activity and was successfully used across four primary schools, the exemplar work in the power point is by year 9 pupils who trialled the brief. All of the pupils have enjoyed the brief and made excellent outcomes in both the designing and making. This could be used as a sequence of lessons or elements used for stand alone lessons or cover work. A booklet of inspiration images and worksheets to allow the pupil to start thinking about the theme, and develop design ideas, including scaffolding for the annotation. This is a format I have used for many years with success, as it is supportive for all pupils as a starting point to begin generating their ideas. It allows them to practise drawing the ideas and developing them through to a fully considered final design. To help pupils begin to create a design solution for the exam; on the Fairground Theme. Fun starter activity for GCSE revision classes. Pupils to work in pairs small groups to play and test each other on the questions inside the fortune teller. Questions might be to explain, list, name information. I have included a blank template, when you print out make sure you cut down to an accurate square shape or the fortune teller will not fold together correctly. Created as a series of cover work lessons, introductory power point with two student worksheets at the end, to facilitate the designing process. I have also laminated and attached the sheets with split pins for use when there is no IT access. Pupils to consider what they would be like as a Super Hero, design their costume / gadgets etc. Consider who their arch enemy would be, and produce a comic strip adventure. Pupils really enjoyed the work, and the fact that it was a series of lessons, producing some very detailed work. Please review, if you download :-)

A quick starter or pleanry to review basic keywords eg: - seam, hem, presser foot. Laminate the cards, pupils could complete the card order in pairs or individually to review their understanding of the terms. Could also be set as a homework - cut out the cards - ask the pupils to glue them in to the correct order on a piece of paper, or write out the correct order. Pupils really enjoy the dominoes! Introduction to the subject of fibre types and the benefits of blending fibres. Brief outline of fibres to yarn to fabric. Usefull as a revision tool for the exam - powerpoint has blank slides that can be printed out for the students to note take on, during the presentation. Fabric samples of the fibre types would be a usefull addition during this presentation to enable pupils to be tactile with the fibre types.

How to complete a simple circuit with conductive sewing thread, using textile components as the switch - to light an led. Can be used for KS3 / 4. Once the basic skill has been mastered - think of other components that can be used to complete the circuit and manage the energy flow.

Cut out and laminate the dominoes. A good way to revise the pattern markings, or introduce the topic. A small selection of dominoes, that work best in small groups at the table.
