Student friendly marking grid - great for AFL, marking 6 mark questions and demonstrating progress

(0)
This is a student friendly marking grid that was designed following a staff CPD session that I attended where an art teacher related how she provided students with specific pre-written assessment points that were numbered to reduce copying out. There are 6 marking points. I make the first 3 easier points for weaker students to meet and the last 3 more challenging points to stretch the students and provide evidence of progress. The grid can then be copied to a word document and printed two grids to one A4 page. An example lesson is provided (alternatives to fossil fuels) to see how this can be used in lesson. The students reply to their EBI in their books. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.

This is a fun activity that be used as a lesson starter or for revision. Students replace element names with symbols to find the names of film characters (easier) or use the clues to work out the symbols (challenging). Please rate this resource and leave feedback.

Enthalpy change graphical method and calculating excess - AS Chemistry

(0)
This is an AS Chemistry lesson on calculating which chemical is in excess in a reaction. Also students calculate an enthalpy change using a graphical method for reactions that happen slowly and therefore heat is lost to the surroundings when recording the temperature rise. The graphical method involves estimating the actual temperature increase. There is opportunity to use hand warmers for the starter activity and reacting magnesium with oxygen (i.e. in air) as a main activity. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.

Carbonyl reduction AS level outstanding lesson

These are thoroughly differentiated resources designed for an AS level chemistry lesson on reduction of carbonyl compounds. Objectives are framed as learning questions and graded C to A. There are clear AFL plenaries using mark schemes. There is a graded Who Wants to be a Millionaire quiz for an end plenary. The starter is an engaging scents demo using butanal (pleasant) and butanoic acid (rancid butter). Pace and student effort is the key to delivering an outstanding lesson using these resources. Mark schemes can be printed. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.

This is a Socrative quiz that can be imported using the code SOC-12169475. Copy this code and paste it in the 'import quiz&' section of your Socrative room. All 12 questions are graded and given a topic. There are a variety of short answer, multiple answer and pictorial questions. Questions cover fractional distillation, polymers, alkenes, alkanes and what a hydrocarbon is. Results from the quiz can be downloaded and analysed providing for outstanding Assessment For Learning.
