This is a 2 part lesson sequence for B1 biology where in lesson 1 students research what diabetes and hypothermia are. They they then create a PowerPoint presentation to explain what homeostasis is and what causes these 2 diseases. In lesson 2 they complete their presentations plus present to the class. I have created a laminated chemicals, elements and compounds cardsort that is colour coded and kept in A4 plastic wallets. Red = acid, blue = alkali / CO2 / water, grey = metals, non-metals = elemental colours where possible. I make 6 lots of these so that I have one set per table. They can be used to: (1) make word equations (and by extension symbol equations), (2) sort metals from non-metals, (3) sort acids from bases (4) sort elemental metals from alloys. These are A4 moved classroom labels that I laminate and keep on the back of my door. Then when the class moved from a lab to an ICT room or the library we put this on the front of the door so that staff or students know where the class has moved to.

Debating and critical thinking skills are an absolutely essential component of scientific thinking. I have provided a range of resources to promote debating skills: a lesson plan where students consider the disadvantages of cars and create their own solutions, debating strategies ideas and student instructions that can easily be adopted into a wide variety of lessons across different subjects. Templates are provided that can be readily modified. One template is a GCSE revision template where students are guided to create their own exam questions and peer edit answers. The second template is useful for writing Blooms-leveled answers at Key Stage 3 and includes a wordbank. The third is an AS Chemistry exam question with keyword glossary. All templates include written instructions for students. Peer editing is great when combined with AFL strategies before and after the activity.

This is a set of labels to printed as 6 slide handouts and stuck in student books either when homework is handed out or when it is handed in. It serves a similar purpose to the missing labels (see my other resources) in that it allows teachers to easily track missing homework and check which students regularly miss handing in homework. This is a levelled checklist for graph skills that year 7 and 8 students should be able to do. I use this the second time that I teach year 7 graph skills. It helps promote inclusion. This is a lesson that was taught to year 7 where we looked at the tissues that make up an organ. A carousel-style practical was set up where there were different plastic organ models around the room and students had to identify the tissues in each organ. This is a lesson plan for an ICT research skills lesson on the history of the cell. 2 timelines are given - one easy and one that is more challenging. Students present their research at the end of the lesson. Alternatively they could present their findings in a second lesson. This is a lesson plan that has been designed and taught to year 8 students. It is taught early in the rock cycle scheme of work and uses salol. Glass rods are dipped in the salol and drops are put on warm, room temperature and cooled (in freezer) glass slides. Crystal size is measured and compared. This model is used to make anologies with rock cooling in the real world. Feedback to my TES inbox please.

I have created an achievement wall that shows student work that has been peer assessed as well as marked by the teacher. Photos of my 2 displays are provided. These displays are changed relatively quickly once a half term or so. See my other resources for an activity that promotes peer and teacher assessment. These display letters are printed on A4 paper then cut and laminated. They are coloured according to levels - blue = 3, turqouise = 4, green = 5, orange = 6, red = 7, pink = high level 7 or 8. This is one in a series of AFL strategies that I have put together. A photo is provided to show the equipment that I use. It works really well with clear Blooms-leveleld objectives and the number line (see my other resources). I have been using a question ball for some time now and here have tried to develop a variety of there kinaesthetic activities that can be used during question sessions. This is a tracker that I designed so that I can clearly see which students are not answering up in class so that I include them more during whole class AFL questions and answers.
