The slides are printed as 6 slide handouts and then cut. Lower ability can compare patients 1 and 2. Higher ability can compare all patients. Patients 3 to 5 pose challenging ethical questions. Use Blooms questioning to further differentiate (compare L4, Justify L7).

This is a 2 part lesson sequence for B1 biology where in lesson 1 students research what diabetes and hypothermia are. They they then create a PowerPoint presentation to explain what homeostasis is and what causes these 2 diseases. In lesson 2 they complete their presentations plus present to the class. This is a fun match up activity that provides instant AFL because the correct shape is generated by matching up the 12 correct answers. This can be a main activity or a fun 10 minute plenary. This is a series of information sheets on the 3 main species of bacteria involved in the nitrogen cycle plus an overview of the cycle itself. Pupils may highlight keywords/ phrases and use this information to create a 6 mark exam question and mark scheme that another pupil answers. 1 mark should be for quality of writing.

This is a lesson plan for an ICT research skills lesson on the history of the cell. 2 timelines are given - one easy and one that is more challenging. Students present their research at the end of the lesson. Alternatively they could present their findings in a second lesson. This is a lesson plan that has been designed and taught to year 8 students. It is taught early in the rock cycle scheme of work and uses salol. Glass rods are dipped in the salol and drops are put on warm, room temperature and cooled (in freezer) glass slides. Crystal size is measured and compared. This strategy is a new idea that I have had using a number line that I initially created to help students during practicals. I have tried this out with Year 7 classes and they absolutely loved it! I have created an achievement wall that shows student work that has been peer assessed as well as marked by the teacher. Photos of my 2 displays are provided. These displays are changed relatively quickly once a half term or so. See my other resources for an activity that promotes peer and teacher assessment. These display letters are printed on A4 paper then cut and laminated. They are coloured according to levels - blue = 3, turqouise = 4, green = 5, orange = 6, red = 7, pink = high level 7 or 8.
