This is a variation of my ‘drag and drop functional group’ activity. In this case you drag the structural formula to the correct name of the functional group. If it is correct it will stick, otherwise it won’t. Could be used around the whiteboard as a quick AFL.

Word searches help concentrate on scientific literacy and aid concentration. they are good summary activities and for revision. I have tried to make these attractive and efficacious in that they use only one side of A4. A solution is provided for each.

Sixth formers love cut & stick exercises. They are valuable because they familiarise the student with the mechanism, they promote discussion when done in groups, and are different to taking notes and practical work.
