A couple of Guess the Word Quizes I have just written for my team - they are to be used as starters and energizers at the start of sessions for students, but of course you can use them where appropriate during your lessons. A fun and engaging way to start any Literacy/English lesson.

This question bank fits nicely with supporting the writing of a Career Personal Statement (See booklet as part of my resources). It allows for reflection and wider career management by asking key questions about a students aspirations and future.

This resource guides staff into using appropriate questioning to help re-focus student attention - this was used as part of staff training to help my teams take more responsibility in the classroom for low level disruption, instead of referring the behaviour on to pastoral staff - this resource links to ‘Using the Levels of Behaviour’ and ‘Classroom Procedures’.

This reflection tool can be used in Behaviour Management training sessions as a starter or indeed as a discussion tool to help generate appropriate discussion of ‘Managing Behaviour’ in the classroom.

Key Concepts that underline this resource include tips on… Transition between Learning Activities - this can be problematic and often poor transition can result in a loss of teaching and learning time. ‘Lesson Sequencing - this is the process of organizing several lesson plans that will be taught consecutively. The purpose of lesson sequencing is to create smooth transitions between lessons in order to meet the objectives of the unit plans and to achieve optimal learning outcomes.

In this resource that can easily be adapted to suit your school, the template and procedures identified are those I introduced as a Head that guided staff into making appropriate decisions on poor behaviour they may come across. It links to using the Levels of Behaviour that I have also added to this package. The procedures also ensure that your team feel well supported.

When a FTE is being considered the Head requires all available evidence in order to make an appropriate decision. This Template identifies all key areas of evidence required and helps collation of paper work before a decision is made. I designed this template to support my decision making as a Head of Alternative Provision; the form would be accompanied by all appropriate written statements from staff and, or students.

Quizzes 11 and 12 to add to your Collection. Quiz 11 is the second Grime Slang Quiz, whilst the gangs and Guns Quiz has been added as a bonus. All of the Quizzes are written for a student who does not engage with mainstream school and has daily tutoring, however he writes grime music and has an interest in the history of guns and warfare. Both can be included in PSHE sessions that are focused on crime or Grime.

The procedures identified on this flow chart were the ones I put in place in my school to track student absence. The effective monitoring of such protocols will depend on the effectiveness of your tutor team, alongside good communication with the Attendance Manager. Such tracking is vital due to increased levels of absence because of Covid 19 and the increased vulnerability of young people, especially those in Special Education.

A Learning Diary that enables any student or teacher the ability to monitor and track evidence of student work; this Learning Diary proved to be a very useful document in my School, to help record the successes of a student who could not engage fully in a mainstream curriculum. However, the student was an excellent citizen around the school, who developed his abilities through engagement of non-academic work which we needed to record. The Diary/Log can also be used in formal lesson for students to record evidence of their work - the format of the template allows for this flexibility.

This resource can be used as a self - assessment/self-reflection document at the end of a module on forest or animal school. I wrote this for a teacher working with an autistic child, with a working at age of around 7-8. There is a writing and spelling focus, but it could also be used as a document to help initiate discussion.

This is Part 1 of 3 Behaviour Support Programmes. The BSP 1 is a module of work that can be used with students who are unable to demonstrate effective social skills and frequently allow their emotions to get the better of them, often demonstrating bouts of anger and increased emotion. The module is best suited to be delivered by a Mentor or Behaviour Coach in a 1-1 or small group environment. It consists of between 4-6 lessons and contains all appropriate worksheets and lesson guidance.

How do we develop/enrich learning in our establishments to enhance student outcomes? I delivered this powerpoint as part of a refresher for my staff, to help enrich and develop wider thought on how they can deliver effective lessons that enhance the learning experience for students. This powerpoint is stand alone and can be delivered as part of whole school staff training - no further resources are required.

Two key templates that help students to track their progress whilst on work experience which will become more pertinent as schools work to achieve the Gatsby Benchmark. The trackers were part of a booklet I wrote to accompany students on their work experience and they could form part of your booklet, if indeed the school has one - if not a WEP/WRL booklet is a good way forward. The additional sheet offers introductory guidance for students. Both trackers could form part of any follow up careers lesson. Are you an NQT or new teacher applying for a new Job? Following on from my popular Head Teacher draft letter, this one is suited to those at University applying for new jobs or indeed those teachers new to the profession. This one is aimed at a Primary School application because it is one I wrote for my Daughter in law: good luck with the job hunting!

Having introduced a Coaching Programme for teachers and support staff in my schools, I have seen the benefit of such a system at first hand. This resource identifies a method for introducing a Coaching Programme for support staff in your schools; the same resource can be adapted for introducing the same programme for your teachers, but it would require some careful additions regarding a focus on teaching and learning and, or other key foci for your team.

A mini-module that I wrote for Life Skills lessons in my role as Head of a PRU. It challenges the students to reflect upon using more appropriate language in and around the school site and to look at alternatives to the inappropriate words students would often use. This resource can be slotted in at any stage to a PSHE, Life Skills or Citizenship Programme.

A Mini module for students to help them reflect upon their behaviour; it is ideally suited for 1-1 intervention work, although it has been delivered in class, as part of a life skills programme. The module is based on training in basic behaviour management for staff that I delivered, which I turned on its head to help students reflect upon their actions, by putting them in the shoes of the teacher. The resource is part of the behaviour management series I have added here that includes, ‘Positive Teacher Language for Behaviour Incidents’, 'Using Appropriate Questions to Re-focus Students and Behaviour Support Packs 1 and 2.

Middle Leaders are the real drivers of school improvement; they are the heartbeat and engine room of a school and we need to ensure they are fully supported. This 2 hour training session was delivered to the Middle Leadership Team across the Service, as a starting point for a real focus on their development and it was received very well by the team. The session initially focuses on the meaning of leadership and the characteristics of good middle leaders, alongside the difference between management and leadership. It then moves to focus on the role of the middle leader and expectations for their role in schools as well as potential training needs for further development. Feedback on the interactive session was very positive.

An extensive resource that will support you in making wholesale improvements to levels of absence across your school. More than ever and especially from September when it is hoped that all students can return to school safely, the monitoring and tracking of attendance and student absence, becomes a key priority for Senior Leaders and Pastoral Staff. Having been a Deputy Head in a school which fell into SM because of poor attendance, I have hands on experience of what it takes to change the culture of school attendance which must include students and all stakeholders across the school. This pack is focused on sharing… A whole school Improvement Plan for Attendance - one I actually devised as part of our HMI monitoring. A whole school 12 page document on actions required to change the culture of attendance across your school, which I had written as part of my work when we were in SM. The document identifies the individual responsibilities of all staff, from form tutors through to senior leaders and Administrative support, to help raise the profile of improving levels of student absence.
