I'm currently teaching 8th grade Spanish. I have taught all levels of Spanish, from kindergarten to high school, at various times in the past 17 years. I have a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. My shop includes all types of resources for Spanish and French, as well as materials for English Language Arts and ELL.

Spanish Garden 2 Emergent Reader Booklets - Mi Jardín - One booklet contains text and images, the other contains text only so students can sketch and create their own versions of the booklets. Each booklet contains 8 pages: the title page with Mi Jardín, with 7 additional pages containing En mi jardin, hay + a vegetable. Vegetables included are corn, peas, string beans, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and carrots. Also included are suggestions for using the booklets and an assembly instruction page. Students first read and cut out the booklet that contains text and illustrations. They then sketch and create their own version using the text only template. The illustration version can be projected in class to present, review and practice pronunciation of the vocabulary. The text only version can be projected onto the Smart Board and students can draw pictures on the Smart Board that correspond to the text.

Students practice asking and answering gusta/n and encanta/n questions with a variety of food vocabulary. Foods include vegetables, meat, candy, fruit, condiments, and desserts. Each student mingles with a bingo grid and must ask classmates if they like or love a food from the grid. When a student replies yes, the name is written in the box. When a student fills the entire grid, he or she says, "Bingo!" After completing the speaking activity, students must complete a followup written activity. For each of the 16 boxes on the bingo grid, students must write a sentence in the 3rd person about the student who signed the box. Spanish Food and Shopping WebQuest OpenCor 18 Questions and Sketch - Your students will enjoy this inquiry based web assignment in which they explore the Spanish convenience store OpenCor. There are 16 questions or tasks for them to complete, including a map sketch showing where OpenCor stores are located. Students must navigate the OpenCor website to answer questions, translate merchandise words, analyze credit card and employment pages, and more. The website is entirely in Spanish. Students are instructed to supply answers in Spanish and English. This is a fun activity for partner or individual work and is a great way to incorporate technology, culture, and language into a lesson. Students can use computers, iPads, or other devices, and this makes a perfect self paced substitute lesson plan. Most questions should apply regardless of changes on the OpenCor website. However, since the possibility does exist that changes could affect the activity responses, an answer key has not been included.
