Here is a detailed lesson all about the history and story of the London Underground, followed by some information of how the tube works. Students then get Maps given to them to try and work out how long and how far stations are from each other. They also need to practice key dialogues and vocabulary related to travel, distance and time. This can also be modified to suit learners as there are key phrases and key information the teacher needs to give learners. We have found this lesson to be very popular and cross-curricular as it covers, English, Maths, Geography and History.

This is a fun personality test that learners can use as a fun way for the teacher to get to know learners better, and learners to learn about themselves. The learners write answers to each question on their worksheet and the teacher can go through the slides 1 by 1 to reveal the true meaning of each of the answers. This has been a huge hit with both younger and older learners and takes approximately 40 minutes to complete if done properly.

Stop the bus is a fantastic team based game to play with learners, where they need to practice and use vocabulary both old and new in order to win points for their team. The Powerpoint will show a category or picture and the teams need to work together to find words to match them. The quickest teams get points, there are also double point rounds. This game is best played on whiteboards.

This is a full 4/5 Lesson Scheme focused on the Taming of the Shrew and an introduction to Shakespeare. There are a range of reading and writing tasks linked to the taming of the shrew, as well as extracts that are also attached. The first lesson is a station based lesson where learners can teach each other about life in Shakespeare’s England, before going on to look at the globe theatre, before spending 2/3 lessons looking in detail at the taming of the shrew. This scheme has been taught to Y5, Y6 and Y7 learners and can be adapted to meet the needs of all learners if required.

A simple and fun game where students have to guess who the Alien is by working out the emotions and feelings of the other characters in the game. Students work around the room filling in the emotions and feelings of each of the other characters on their worksheet and then use those to work out who the alien is.

Here is an amazing 3-4 Lesson activity that can be done with Y5, Y6 or Y7 age learners. Learners need to be able to use language to market and sell their own luxury food item. They will work in teams, with assigned roles to pitch their product, look at costs and then advertise the product. They will need to use a variety of DAFOREST features which is recapped in the lesson. This has been extremely successful when done with KS2 and KS3 learners and can be a brilliant way to get your class using and enhancing their reading and writing skills, as well as speaking and listening skills when doing the pitch. Students can learn how to make a Sandwich, looking at key words such as ingredients, recipe and instructions. They can also familiarise themselves with food vocabulary and actually make a sandwich! Here is a great full lesson analysing the poem “The Soldier” by Rupert Brooke. This is ideal for students in KS3, years 7,8,9 . This lesson will help students to explore and understand the themes in the poem, including conflict. The lesson goes through the poem line by line in detail, looking at and discussing the key themes, poetic devices used as a well as a range of discussion and/or writing activities. This can also be differentiated as required for lower levels by simply removing/simplifying some of the extended activities.

Full lesson on personality with 4 personality tests Here is a great fun lesson for KS1/KS2 and ESL learners all about personality. Students can learn the different personality words and adjectives for description, complete a quiz/game and then write down the answers for each of the 4 personality tests. They can then get the results of each test to find out the true meaning of each test! This is a lot of fun and has gone done well with many different student groups. This Scheme includes 8-10 Lessons on Romeo and Juliet, looking at a range of themes within the play, and breaking down the play scene by scene, while also comparing both the modern and traditional versions of the play. This is a great activity for primary learners, ideally KS1 or KS2. There are a number of different activities and materials for you to use in this lesson. This lesson could be taught over 40,50,60 or 70 minutes depending on how many of the activities you want to complete. The first activity is a warm up vocabulary activity. (5 mins). The next activity is an odd one out game looking at different animals whom live in hot and cold places and a hidden picture game. (5 mins). Then students will look in detail at deserts of the world and where they are located as well as some interesting facts about deserts. (5-10 mins). Students will then look at both hot and cold desert animals, looking at ideas such as the food chain etc. (5-10 mins). There is then a practical activity for students to color and label a world map of deserts and land. (15-20 mins). Then the teacher can ask students the review questions to help them recap learning. (5-10 mins). Finally, students can play a writing relay game in teams. This a fun way to recap and use the vocabulary studied in the lesson. (10-15 mins).

This lesson is called Amazing Animals, with lots of discussion, vocabulary and activities for students to complete. The lesson can be broken down over an hour, or easily extended into two lessons: Warm Up - The teacher can ask students the question prompts about animals to generate ideas and understanding (10-15 mins). This book was developed for young children to help them develop their core literacy and pronunciation skills. Easy enough for the youngest readers, and yet still challenging for younger ones. Here is a full 7 Lesson scheme for Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, looking at the novel in detail, focusing on many key scenes, characters and context throughout, as well as various starter and review activities. It also looks at some of the techniques used by the writer, as well as a drama activity and writing activities with some assessment questions for KS2 and KS3 learners which can be adapted or modified when needed.

This is a scheme centred on Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. This has been used with Mid-High ability KS3 and lower to mid KS4 students and covers a wide range of themes in each of the chapters of the story. Each lesson contains developed learning objectives and key word foci, as well as a starter activity. Periodical homework tasks, assessment tasks and exam style questions are included. You can either teach this with or without the text, but I have taught this alongside the text, which means this scheme can last between 6-10 1 hour lessons. Lessons can also be easily differentiated if needed and assessment / exam style tasks can be easily changed if needed. This scheme works best with KS3 (Year 8-9) learners and lower level KS4 (Year 10) students. There are no other resources needed than each of the detailed lessons. Enjoy!
