This lesson was an observation lesson for performance management to a group of Year 7 students who are studying Gothic Literature. This lesson can also be used within a creative writing unit. The lesson is structured in a way where students are given awareness of the impact of short and long sentences. There are also multiple hinge questions and plenaries to assess the learning before completing the final task which is then peer assessed.

This is a revision lesson of Elizabeth Bishop’s ‘The Fish’ and ‘The Prodigal Son’. This analyzes the theme of nature, imagery and also other poetic techniques from both poems. It also gives a small background of Bishop.

This Lesson focuses on students’ first impressions of Lennie within Of Mice and Men. It will be clear to students that appearances are deceiving with Steinbecks use of language and the reality of Lennie’s character. This PowerPoint starts with a re-cap on context from Northern Ireland. It then gives students information on the many layers within the poem and also what Longley’s main message is. The students are then asked to answer questions on the poem-these are displayed within the PowerPoint and leads to discussion. Before moving to a diary entry, students are asked to choose a statement. This is to assess the students understanding of the poem before moving forward. This is a detailed lesson plan for a KS3 class. This particular class is primarily focusing on AFOREST and how it can be used within a Room 101 presentation. This particular lesson plan was used for an interview lesson. The plan has a ‘Do Now’. guidelines on teacher input, assessment, individual practice and also a plenary with notes to the side. This lesson plan is just a guide, it does not include resources (PowerPoint, exercises) and it is a ‘Read Only’ document.

This lesson is the second from two lessons that I created on Alice Dunbar Nelson’s poem ‘I Sit and Sew’. In this lesson the students will learn about language and structure and how the poet uses structure effectively within this poem. This lesson was used for remote learning but can easily be used in class also.

This is a comprehensive overview of a scheme of work I created as Head of English. This links to the specific reading and writing strands from the National Curriculum. Each half termly topic for Year 7-9 links to the learning outcomes which are in individual tables. Therefore making it a 64 page word file which is sufficient for any inspection. NB: This is specific to a curriculum I created for the upcoming academic year and my own scheme of work.

This lesson is perfect for an English class on their first day back at school for KS3. The studied poem is ‘Summer Goes’ by Russell Hoban. The lesson primarily focuses on how the students in your class can relate to the speaker in the poem after summer ends. The resource has a PowerPoint and a copy of the poem included.

In this PowerPoint students start by giving their opinion of Fagin from what they have read in the text before reading the ending of the novel. The extracts focus on Oliver and Fagin’s conversation while Fagin is in prison. The students work in pairs with differentiated sheets and answer questions on the extract. These are also included. The end of this PowerPoint then asks the students if their opinion of Fagin has changed after close analysis of the extract. The main aim of this class is for students to build a sense of empathy for Fagin and come to the realisation that Bill Sykes is the real villain in this story.
