A LEVEL - PRESIDENT KENNEDY AND CIVIL RIGHTS
This resource contains 3 lessons addressing the issue of Civil Rights during the presidency of JFK and is fully resourced.
They address issues such as the NAACP; Black Power and how these movements impacted on Kennedy’s Presidency.
They have been created for AQA A level, but is suitable for any board and could also be used for GCSE civil rights.
BASELINE ASSESSMENT IN HISTORY FOR YEAR 6-7 TRANSITION
This resource contains 2 baseline assessments and two mark schemes for history transition from year 6-7. The first test examines knowledge and understanding, and tests students on their knowledge of historical methods and the Second World War (KS2 topic). It is fully differentiated and examines recall and key second order concept understanding.
The second assessment is a skills assessment which evaluates students’ ability to use source materials. They are required to demonstrate key skills such as making inferences; comparing sources; assessing reliability. There are a wide range of written; pictoral and photographic evidence to evaluate on the papers testing all of their skills as well as written sources.
They are accompanied with mark schemes and guidance on performance.
I use these tests to inform planning and differentiation for the year.

GCSE MASTERING SOURCE UTILTY QUESTIONS
This lesson supports GCSE students in being able to evaluate the utility of sources essential for GCSE success. It is taught through modeling answers and success criterion and giving students the opportunity step by step to improve their skills.
It includes a hand out which can be stuck in their books and used as a checklist to ensure that they have covered the key skills necessary for a successful answer to a source utility question at GCSE.
A LEVEL - HENRY VIII's LEGACY TO EDWARD VI AND AN INTRODUCTION TO THE MID-TUDOR CRISIS

They involve detailed source analysis and pay particularly close attention to Eisenhower’s foreign policy as detailed on the specification. It would take about 10 lessons to deliver the work contained in these resources.

The first resource contains an assembly (approx 20 mins) and an extended writing task for a lesson. The whole power point would take about an hour to teach and involves drawing on historical and literacy skills.
The second resource is a n alternative lesson which investigates the morality behind the bombing of Dresden - students use a wide range of historical source material to carry out an investigation and reach a judgment.

GCSE - MASTERING EVALUATING INTERPRETATIONS
This lesson focuses on how to attain a high level on the GCSE history paper when evaluating interpretations of history.
The lesson is taught by looking at potential questions and through teacher modeling and then students copying. It demonstrates how to structure answers and differentiates between information lifted from interpretations and presentation of own knowledge.
GCSE - MASTERING INTERPRETATIONS OF HISTORY QUESTIONS
This lesson has been created to help GCSE students to answer questions which require them to explain how interpretation differ, and give valid reasons why they differ.
It is taught through explaining the concept of interpretations of history; understanding the role of an historian; examples of model answers and opportunities to practice examples of GCSE questions.
This is particularly useful to consolidate higher prior attaining students conceptual understanding and to provide a logical route to accessing the marks for these question types for lower prior attaining students.

A LEVEL - THE HISTORIOGRAPHY OF ELIZABETHAN GOVERNMENT
This is an A level double lesson (2 hours) which explores the key historical debate regarding Queen Elizabeth I and her relationship with Parliament as required by the Tudors A Level courses.
It contains starter activities which link Elizabeth to previous Tudor Monarchs; historiographies; and resources containing summarised but very detailed key information needed for answering an interpretation question on this topic.
The lesson enables the teacher to work through the planning of an A level historiography answer, and then allows the students to write their own independent answer. All resources needed are included.
REMEMBERING VE DAY - LESSON - WAS DRESDEN JUSTIFIED OR A WAR CRIME?
This lesson has been created to recognise VE Day, and to help students look at source materials to reach a value judgment. It is suitable for most ages but particularly useful for either key stage 2 or 3.
It starts with information about VE day and the background to the war in the air with clips; images and statistics. It then presents the students with a wide range of source material which they have to categorise by making inferences and tabulating information. The main task is a piece of writing in the form of a newspaper report where students are judged on how effectively they communicate the conclusions they have drawn from the sources. The lesson ends with a class discussion which can be differentiated.
This is an appropriate lesson for VE Day, and takes about 1 hour to complete all activities.
A LEVEL - THE IMPACT OF QUEEN ELIZABETH I'S EARLY LIFE ON THE TYPE OF QUEEN SHE BECAME
This lesson is an introduction to Queen Elizabeth I made for A level history. It can be used for any board and investigates the experiences in her early life and her preparation for becoming queen. It also focuses on her attitude to religion. This includes various tasks, but the key focus is on helping students to evaluate interpretations and presenting relevant evidence as required by all examination boards, .

VE Day on May 8th. It is suitable for primary and secondary school and contains:
An assembly/lesson - the first part of the ppt is an assembly containing images/clips/explanations about the significance of VE day and the aftermath of the war (approx 20 mins). If it is used as a lesson there are tasks incorporated in the 2nd part of the presentation to support building on writing evaluative answers (in this case weighing up the consequences of the aftermath of the Second World War). The lesson will take approximately an hour to teach, but students may need time to complete the work for homework.
A VE Day Quiz and discussion opportunity - useful for a tutorial or a history lesson. The quiz is on a ppt - so can be delivered to the whole class at the samr time - it is followed up with a discussion about VE Day.
VE Day timeline - this timeline contains 20 key events of 1945 leading to victory in Europe. Each event is on a separate sheet and contains an explanation and a colourful image - will need space for 20 sheets of A4 to go around the classroom.
VE Day wordsearch/quiz - can be used as a starter or an extension activity.
