Nutrition "Which food do I need and how can I tell?"

(0)
Help your students gain insight into their nutritional habits and realize their healthy and ... not so healthy food choices! The aim of this activity is to encourage the students to read food labels in order to collect and analyze nutritional information and have them think critically about the products they buy for food. It is suggested for implementation in 7 and 8th grade. As a first step, discuss with your students about the food pyramid as a tool for recording and assessing their food choices and then use the nutritional information worksheet to practice data collection from food labels and promote informed nutritional choices.

Use this assessment activity to evaluate your student's knowledge and skills concerning organisms and their environment! Students will put their capabilities to the test regarding concepts such as food chains, webs and pyramids, ecological interactions and major environmental issues. It is suitable for 8 and 9th grade students. This activity is suggested as an one-hour assessment after teaching the relevant subject. The teacher should have installed the Microsoft mouse mischief plug-in on their PowerPoint software and made sure they have enough wireless mice for all the students' groups to use. My students' really enjoy this kind of assessment because it is competitive and fun! It is aligned with NGSS disciplinary Core Ideas: LS1C, LS2B and LS2C.
