King Edward VI Grammar School

King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford (known as KEGS locally) is a Leading Edge School, constantly testing and adapting professional practice to raise standards of teaching and learning. It is consistently one of the top ten grammar schools in the country and lends itself to being a natural leader with an international reputation as a centre of learning. The School is regularly in the top five in A Level league tables, and the top ten at GCSE.

We aim to optimise learning, and to educate the ‘whole person’ through excellence in the highest level of pastoral care and support in every aspect of our work. We provide an exceptional range of opportunities both within the classroom and through the impressively diverse extra-curricular activities. Our goal is to engage students in their own learning and to teach them to be life-long learners.

The most recent OFSTED report described the school as an ‘outstandingly effective’ school achieving ‘outstanding results’ and ‘excellent personal development’. It boasts a 'passionate interest in learning by teachers and students’. Admission to year 7 is by 11+ examination performance, and around 80 students, including girls, from other schools are admitted annually into Year 12, based on GCSE examination performance.
