We are an Ofsted Good rated, 11- 16 academy based in the friendly, attractive village of Carlton in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The Academy became part of the Outwood Family of Schools in 2016.

We are delighted that in its latest report, Ofsted noted ‘staff morale is high’ and that we offer a ‘well-considered programme of professional development’ which ‘ensures that staff continuously improve their skills and knowledge.’

We believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. We are innovators with a knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential.

With a holistic view of education, we value vocational, practical, creative and academic excellence equally, creating an environment where every student can shine.

We have won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, in addition to being an IQM Centre of Excellence, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Bronze Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.
