About Pennthorpe School
Pennthorpe is a co-educational independent preparatory day school for children aged 2 to 13, set in the village of Rudgwick on the Surrey/Sussex border. Nestled within a beautiful 25-acre site, including 16 acres of luscious woodland, the school provides an inspiring environment in which children can learn, explore and thrive.
Pennthorpe is proud to be in partnership with Hurst College, a relationship that reflects a shared commitment to educational excellence, strong values and a forward-thinking approach to learning. This partnership enriches the Pennthorpe experience, broadening opportunities for pupils and enhancing collaboration across teaching, co-curricular provision and strategic development, while preserving Pennthorpe’s distinctive identity and independence.
Renowned for its innovative curriculum, exceptional pastoral care and welcoming, child-centred campus, Pennthorpe has an outstanding track record of Scholarship success. The school is dedicated to nurturing the whole child, ensuring each pupil is supported to flourish both academically and personally.
“Non nobis solum nati” - “Born not for ourselves alone” - is Pennthorpe’s guiding motto. The Pennthorpe Purpose reflects the importance of making a positive contribution to the lives of others, encouraging pupils to look beyond themselves and engage meaningfully with the world around them. Through a rich and engaging educational experience, children develop confidence, resilience, collaboration and a strong sense of responsibility, preparing them to pursue their individual aspirations.
Whether in academic achievement, kindness and consideration for others, or a positive, energetic approach to school life, excellence underpins all that Pennthorpe seeks to achieve. Since 1930, the school has successfully prepared children for a wide range of leading senior schools.
