About Portsmouth High School
Portsmouth High School is an independent school for girls aged 3 to 18 situated in Southsea, Hampshire, just a 5 minute walk from the sea. The school part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, the leading provider of education for girls in the country which has been successfully educating girls since 1872. Portsmouth High School is ambitious for every pupil, preparing them for life beyond the school gates and an education at the school can be life changing.
The senior school opened its doors in 1882 and moved to its current location almost 130 years ago. Other sections have been founded over the years: the junior school opened in 1927, while the nursery was established in 2005.

Values and vision
Portsmouth High School nurtures students’ talents to help them grow into well-rounded individuals, socially and personally as well as academically. Relationships between students and staff are respectful and supportive, and bullying is extremely rare.
The school believes its status as an all-girls school is a valuable one, giving its students a confidence that helps redress the imbalance in female representation in leading positions in the outside world.
