About The Charterhouse Square School

Introduction

Charterhouse Square School is an independent co-educational school for pupils aged 3 to 11 years. Located in the heart of The City of London, it offers an environment rich with opportunities. The school seamlessly combines academic excellence with a focus on providing a safe and nurturing atmosphere – a home away from home, where teachers and pupils embrace a first-name basis, and they choose not to have a school uniform, allowing every child to express their individuality.

Pupils benefit from excellent teaching, superb pastoral care, and a warm, friendly, and stimulating environment. They are encouraged and empowered to embrace challenges, step out of their comfort zones, and strive for the highest levels of achievement while developing as confident, articulate, and self-motivated individuals. The school's ethos centres on creating a unique environment where academic excellence is part of everyday life, while never losing sight of the thrill of learning, the spirit of the individual, or the brilliance of togetherness.

Year after year, pupils consistently achieve results well above the national average at every school stage. They secure exceptional 11+ results and gain places at some of London’s finest senior schools. This success is supported by a forward-thinking curriculum that operates a year ahead of age group expectations, ensuring pupils are well-prepared for future challenges.

The curriculum provides a thorough grounding in the core subjects of Literacy and Numeracy, as well as the Arts, Humanities, and Sports. Oracy skills are prioritised through activities such as debating, philosophy for children, and current affairs.

Schemes like the Year 6 buddy system, which pairs each new pupil with a student from the top of the school, play an important role in creating a supportive environment and fostering maturity. Charterhouse Square School aims to provide a welcoming, open atmosphere where pupils, parents, and teachers come together to form a strong, supportive community.

Values and vision

The school is proud of its academic success but places greater emphasis of creating the safe, nurturing environment that builds the self-confidence of the children and makes this possible. Pupils are taught that they matter and that they each have talents to celebrate, opinions to express and potential to explore.

Schemes such as a “buddy” system, which see each new girl and boy paired up with one of the pupils from the top of the school, plays an important role in creating a supportive environment.   Charterhouse Square School aims to provide a welcoming, open atmosphere so that pupils, parents and teachers all come together to form a strong supportive community.
