Job overview

As part of a planned and ambitious phase of school expansion, Uppingham Cairo is pleased to invite applications for the position of Deputy Head (Pastoral), Senior School, from August 2026. We seek an experienced, dynamic and highly accomplished pastoral leader who is deeply committed to excellence in education and to the wellbeing and character development of young people. The successful candidate will bring the judgement, presence and strategic vision required to shape and sustain an outstanding pastoral culture within a prestigious and rapidly growing British international school.

This appointment forms part of a wider strengthening of the school’s leadership structure from August 2026. A number of new senior roles are being established in order to increase leadership capacity at a time of significant growth and strategic development. As Uppingham Cairo prepares for the opening of the Sixth Form in September 2027 and for the launch of our second campus, Uppingham New Cairo, in September 2028, it is essential that the Senior School is underpinned by robust, forward-looking and values-driven leadership. These developments represent an important next chapter in the school’s evolution and require experienced leaders who can think strategically, build strong teams and embed systems that will sustain excellence as the school grows.

The Deputy Head (Pastoral) will therefore join the school at a pivotal moment, contributing not only to the present strength of the Senior School but also to the careful preparation for these major milestones. Working closely with the Headmistress, Head of Senior School and wider leadership team, the postholder will play a central role in defining and embedding the pastoral ethos of the Senior School and Sixth Form, ensuring that every pupil is known, supported and appropriately challenged. The successful candidate will demonstrate the qualities, authority and warmth required to lead pastoral systems with clarity and consistency, while contributing to a highly ambitious and stable leadership team.

At Uppingham Cairo, leaders benefit from exceptional opportunities for professional growth and the satisfaction of working within a thriving and intellectually ambitious environment where relationships are strong and expectations are high. The school offers a distinctive British day boarding model, outstanding facilities and abundant resources on a remarkable campus set within the New Giza landscape, with views of the pyramids and a uniquely inspiring setting for school life. Strong and active links with Uppingham School in the United Kingdom provide regular professional collaboration and ensure alignment with the highest standards of British independent education.

The role offers a highly competitive leadership salary together with an extensive range of benefits designed to support both professional success and personal wellbeing. These include high-quality accommodation, comprehensive private healthcare, meals in school, sports centre and gym membership and transport during term time. Coaching and professional development pathways are available for all senior leaders, and opportunities for further career progression within the growing family of Uppingham schools are exceptional. In addition, staff with children are eligible for up to two full Day Boarding scholarships at Uppingham Cairo, providing access to an outstanding British education.

Applications should be made using the Uppingham Cairo Application Form and accompanied by a covering letter. Completed applications should be sent by email to recruitment26@uppinghamcairo.com. Please do not submit applications online, as they will not be considered.

Please ensure that you complete the application form in full, with the names and contact details of two professional referees, to include your current or most recent head teacher if you are or have been employed in a school. CVs may also be sent in addition to the application form and covering letter, but are not required.

Further details regarding this role are available in the Deputy Head (Pastoral) Application Pack. Uppingham Cairo opened in September 2024 as the first overseas school of Uppingham UK, one of the most distinguished and historic independent schools in the world. For the first time since 1584, there is another Uppingham. Like their fellow Uppinghamians in the UK, our pupils are inspired by the intellectual rigour of an academic curriculum that encourages exploration, critical analysis, calculated risk-taking, communication and teamwork. They are encouraged to use their imagination, to think creatively, to explore the world around them, to be ambitious and to strive for academic excellence. They will become team players, leaders and innovators. Most importantly, they will learn how to think, not what to think.

From teaching to business support roles, Uppingham Cairo is a vibrant, inclusive and forward-looking environment that provides a wealth of opportunities for a whole range of professions. Our staff are valued and supported, understanding that we all have an important role in educating, nurturing and inspiring the next generation.
