Job overview

As part of a planned and ambitious phase of school development, Uppingham Cairo is pleased to invite applications for the position of Assistant Head: Co-Curricular and Operations (Junior School) from August 2026. We seek an outstanding classroom practitioner and highly organised school leader who is deeply committed to the wider life of the school and to delivering a vibrant, purposeful and well-ordered Junior School experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate energy, initiative and excellent professional judgement, together with the organisational strength required to ensure that the co-curricular and operational life of the school runs with clarity, coherence and ambition.

This role forms part of the continued strengthening of leadership capacity across the school as Uppingham Cairo grows in size and maturity. As the school looks ahead to the opening of the Sixth Form in September 2027 and to the launch of Uppingham New Cairo in September 2028, it is essential that the structures underpinning the daily life of the Junior School are robust, well coordinated and aligned with the school’s academic and pastoral ambitions. The Assistant Head: Co-Curricular and Operations will play a central role in ensuring that the rhythm of school life supports both intellectual engagement and personal development.

Working closely with the Head of Junior School and in partnership with the Deputy Head (Academic), Deputy Head (Pastoral), Deputy Director of Enrichment and Expeditions and Senior School colleagues, the postholder will lead the planning and coordination of the Junior School co-curricular programme and oversee key operational systems. This will include responsibility for the organisation of the school calendar, events and local educational visits, as well as oversight of daily operational routines such as staff cover and scheduling. The successful candidate will ensure that the wider life of the Junior School is rich, balanced and well organised, and that co-curricular provision reflects the ethos and ambitions of Uppingham Cairo.

At Uppingham Cairo, teachers benefit from exceptional opportunities for professional growth and the satisfaction of working within a thriving and purposeful school community where expectations are high and relationships are strong. The school offers outstanding facilities and abundant resources on a remarkable campus set within the New Giza landscape, providing a uniquely inspiring environment for both staff and pupils. Strong and active links with Uppingham School in the United Kingdom provide regular professional collaboration and ensure alignment with the highest standards of British independent education.

The role offers a competitive salary together with a generous range of benefits designed to support both professional and personal wellbeing. These include high-quality accommodation where applicable, comprehensive private healthcare, meals in school, sports centre and gym membership and transport during term time. Professional development opportunities are available for all staff, and the potential for career progression within the growing family of Uppingham schools is significant. In addition, staff with children are eligible for up to two full Day Boarding scholarships at Uppingham Cairo, providing access to an outstanding British education.

Applications should be made using the Uppingham Cairo Application Form and accompanied by a covering letter. Completed applications should be sent by email to recruitment26@uppinghamcairo.com. Please do not submit applications online, as they will not be considered.

Please ensure that you complete the application form in full, with the names and contact details of two professional referees, to include your current or most recent head teacher if you are or have been employed in a school. CVs may also be sent in addition to the application form and covering letter, but are not required.

Uppingham Cairo opened in September 2024 as the first overseas school of Uppingham UK, one of the most distinguished and historic independent schools in the world. For the first time since 1584, there is another Uppingham. Like their fellow Uppinghamians in the UK, our pupils are inspired by the intellectual rigour of an academic curriculum that encourages exploration, critical analysis, calculated risk-taking, communication and teamwork. They are encouraged to use their imagination, to think creatively, to explore the world around them, to be ambitious and to strive for academic excellence. They will become team players, leaders and innovators. Most importantly, they will learn how to think, not what to think.
